    As per topic.

I've had Operation Flashpoint since it was released, but have never played it online.

What do I need as far as patches are concerned, and what's the best place to get them (local mirror).

    Also, any Irish servers ?
    If so, how active ?

I'm right in thinking that there's no point in bothering if you only have 56k, aren't I?

for the central site goto www.flashpoint1985.com
and get update 1.20 (~38 megs)
    update 1.30 (~32megs)
    and update 1.46 (~6megs)
I know they'r big, so you might want to get dnc/nethouse to burn you a copy.
They do add significantly to the game, and enhance some little things here and there.
Not to mention the amount of extra stuff you get :)

    www.operationflashpoint.cz is another option

or just put the filenames into google.

If there was an Irish server you could get by on a 56k for some of the smaller missions (7-8 people), but it reccomends single-channel isdn for clients (probably more of a ping+throughput issue).
Hopefully when people start getting DSL it'll open up a bit mroe :)
Twoud be nice to have a few Irish theme missions for that, wouldn't it?

    That'd be sweet :)

I'm on 28.8k at the moment, but might have a *much* better conn by the summer :)

The game really needs 128MB min, and will make full use of 256megs
I have 640 and it loads in no time. If you have a fast harddrive (UDMA133 +7200+rpm) it'll be like loading off a ramdisk :)

A decent TnL card will go a long way too :)
The game is very tweakbalt, but I haven't had any need to do so seeing as how my box runs it was well as I need it to.

I play a lot of UT online and Id like to get back into Op Flash ( Few weeks after it came out me and few UT buddies were playing it alot- had no server so had to get a cabler to host). Most interested in Co-op missons, are there any decent ones around? The hostage rescue one in the original was not all that great (Hostages were "unrescuable" - no trigger or objective completed and it was bloody hard - lot of armour with very little anti armour weapons/ammo around). Hoping somebody has come out with better since:)

I have a good few at home, but still need a bit to time to try em all.
There are two particular ones which I played on a LAN before which I liked, though one of might get a bit old quickly:
1)You are reconning an enemy base and they start moving out, towards your base, ther's only about 10 of you, there are weapon crates all around your base and you have access to a few tanks.
It'll take them a few minutes to get over soyou have some time to get organised and ready.
They start coming from all sides and it really takes a bit of coordination to kepp yourself alive and firing in those tanks.
In this mission there's no "eternal seagull of death", you respawn very quickly. Also alot of 'toys' to play with in the crates, mortars being especially fun.
I'll find the name of it later, or host it myself.

    2) Co-op where you and your squad have to blow the crap out of a convoy, while keeping one truck (or BMP - see below) alive for you to escape in. For anyone who's done these ambush missions before, the destruction of the convoy will be an easy task, but the amount of men that will pile out of the vehicles when they're destroyed means you really need to be accurate and not waste ammo (there's a resupply crate, but it's a bit of a trek away).
We managed to cap the two soldiers in the BMP before and sneak up to it, covering each other and steal the BMP (which was kind of beatup - must be more careful with the LAWs). Then proceeded to drive the wrong way for 5 mins before turning around. When we were approaching the ambush spot we were greeted by about 15 enemy grunts whom we'd forgotten about. 2 seconds later our newly acquired vehicle was smoldering.

I love the mission (despite the fact we've had to play it over and over again), where you have to hold this little village, and tanks and men come over the hill at you. Once they're dead, more men come over, more tanks, it's brill!

So much fun planting mines and satchel charges and running off into the woods. Watch em all blow up. I love playing as the sniper.

Hoping to play online once I get my internet back, and get ADSL.

one of the best missions (single player) is battlefields, thats one BIG infantry battle about 6 teams of 6 on each side and when you kill all them the same amount of enemy troops parachute in along with some tanks from the north- east of the hill, not to mention that little prick of a sniper.

plenty more great ones in there too but this is ine of my favourates.

i have to agree with the battlefields map. I remember the first time i went to play it I noticed that a 1GHz processor was required. when it loaded i saw why. crazy battle. but great fun

yeah, that's the sort of mission that would require a decent connection.
Must try it at a lan sometime :)

56k is fine if your the only 56k`er on the server.
I ahve found a few decent servers in ASE.

yeah, I agree. cos Im 56k and I run an ofp clan and I get by fine. I guess, it does lag a bit with most servers, but its always playable, and on some servers u'll get no lag at all. Only hard part is admitting I'm on 56k when everyone else in my clan is higher. There used to be a guy from Denmark with T1 all for himself, and denmark is small just like us.

Countries like Denmark and Norway are plastered in fibre. And don't have one company in possession of the local loop.
    We do => we're fúcked.

I just found out today that I won't be able to get DSL for the foreseeable future, therefore I'm totally reliant on GalwayWAN to provide my connection.

I'm also limited to 28.8kbps at the moment.
Might be just enough for a conection, but not good enough for serious squad battles or competitions.
