I'm fairly new to this whole Linux malarky so please forgive me for any complete and utter ignorance that I am about to display..
I'm trying to install Redhat 7.2 on a Dell Inspiron 7000 lappie.
D/L the two Iso, stuck them on CD's, inserted CD's in CD-ROM drive, booted machine and ………. Nothing!!
I can boot to a DOS prompt and "see" the D (CD_ROM) drive and "see" the files, however when I try to boot from the CD it just won't take it..
Next step tried making a bootdisk from the CD, also didn't work because as the screen happily told me, it could not read from drive D, even though I can access it…
D/L'd a bootdisk, stuck it on a floppy and booted from that.
Also no luck, it runs through the whole bootup menu until it has to access the CD in the D drive and that's it…
    Can't find a Redhat CD….
Has anyone got any tips before I try the an old bit of "ultra-violence" on it?

it sound like you cd's might be corrumpt - most likely the iso's. you need to check the md5 checksums to see if they d/led properly

go into you bios and make sure that it's set to boot from cdrom.

if booting off a cd fails:
copy the images folder off cd1 onto your hd and use rawrite to make a bootdisk from the cdrom.img(i think) file

    g'luck

Yeah, sounds like a corrupt ISO.
    Take a look here:

    http://www.linuxiso.org/

There's some faqs on downloading/burning there.

Just ensure that when you are burning the iso to Cd-rom that
u choose the option in your cd-burning software to burn an ISO image.
Eg In easy Cd creator its File then Create Cd from Cd image and u give it the ISO file that you downloaded.

When u put in the CD which never booted , did you hear the cd-drive spin up at all ?? if not then I would say that you'd have to set your bios to try and boot from CD-ROM first

ie First Bootable Device should be set to Cd-Rom

    Hope that helps.
