is it me or are one or two really annoying. Maura Derrane has way too big hair and he voice just goes on and on in a kinda of droll.

and why do the employ lorraine Keane? when clearly any good journalist could do her job with their eyes closed. Notice how she doesn't sit at the desk anymore ... slowly but surely she is going ... thank god .. any one agree ?

And my final gripe - tv3 in the mornings - WHY !! it is boring - that alan guy wears far too much make up and is not funny. The two main presenters sit too high on their chairs so it looks like there are at an office job not a morning show - reminds me of facing the boss before a b*ll*cking.

Or is it just me ? surely someone else feels the same - tv 3 is a good channel programme wise but presenter wise it is just getting a little too naff ?

    any one agree ?

Your man the weather guy(martin king) i think, The guys a mixture between Daniel O Donnell and That Julian guy from UTV. Lorraine Keane dresses like a prozzie (no harm there so...)

TV3 Soccer presented by Packie" Roserary Beads" Bonner
but still it`s better than "wait and see what BBC and UTV do" RTE

Martin King is quite popular and does his job quite well, I think, in a homely sort of way.
Ireland AM is on the other hand Very boring -I rarely if ever watch it.
It's only there so TV3 can fullfill it's "home produced" programmes quota requirement.

"wait and see what the BBC and UTV do" RTE?

Most of the presenters have come from programmes once shown on RTE.

But they both look towards the BBC and UTV. Eg wwtbam? and The Weakest Link.

Havent seen anything of real innovation from TV3 yet still waiting.

When RTE have something good and orginal they usually take it off the air.

If you want good presenting and good orginal ideas I am afraid your going to have to look at TG4 a station that needs to be copied by RTE and/or TV3. I thought the reason that RTE employed Cathal Goan was because of his innovation with TG4.

I heard that Lorraine Keane is getting her own Half an hour slot with an entertainment update or something?

Martin King and your man from talkabout need to be shot asap.

Also why does Ireland AM pretend to be a feature show when its more of an news update show. News every half an hour for 10mins, the a quaterpast with a bulletin lasting 4mins. thats 24 mins for every hour and then there is all the adds that they show there is not much room for the two presenters.

Also do TV3 sets get worse as time goes on at least the have good graphics for their news now (about time).

I always laugh at the way the news trys to emulate American news[i think thats the plan anyway].Alan Cantwell always reads the first paragraph of the first headline. When Grainne whatsit starts reading the next paragraph he makes a rapid turn to his left to look at her with amazing interest in what shes saying. It just looks so fluckin stupid!

i disagree about this one. i have been waking up to a news reader on Ireland AM (i have it on for some sort of election news) for the last week and she is much better than Sharon Ní Bheolain. much better

Did anybody see the new weather girl on TV3 news this week? Shes hott does the weather allot better than Martin King.

Where is Claire Bynre gone these days?

Claire Byrne was a dope. All she had going for her was her face - and without make-up, it wasn't a pretty sight.

Remember Emma Butler (I think) who was on Ireland AM? COMPLETE DUNCE - you could even see her eyes moving to follow the autocue when they were supposedly having an ad-libbed chat! She went on to Spin 1038 as 'Emma B'. Then she got married and changed the 'B' to something else!

The most annoying thing about Lorraine Keane is her D4 'RYNDABYTE' accent.

Having a third-level qualification doesn't mean you have perfect grammar. The scrolling text on the bottom of the screen on Ireland AM almost always has some sort of spelling mistake.

In short, TV3 presenters are just froth, a bit of totty with no substance.

Not to mention the absence of apostrophies [hope that's the right spelling!] in their news ticker ... Sky News Active has been really bad lately in this regard also.

ah i love tv3 news, its so cheaply made its funny, rarely at times, you might have martin king doing the news and the weather at the same time!,also sometimes they get their timing wrong so the news might finish 5 mins before 6 so the presenters might have to talk about a certain event to fill up the time, comic gold that is!

I absolutely detest the theme music for their news. Sounds like it was made using a Bontempi keyboard from the 1980s.

You have to say the look of TV3 News is better than RTE. That horrible brown set looks awful and cheap! I hope they change it soon. Blue looks best on the news. It looks more serious.

The graphics look well but as I said before with news services they always seem to get the set wrong if the graphics are good, and visavers.

Vincent Browne's Nightly News really hasn't got to grips with the blue screen set, the table looks like they are going into space, your right blue would be a better colour then the red that he has. But it is better then them having them sit in the centre of the set.

They should have given the GAA/Rugby coverage sets over to Sports Tonight which looks like a revamped 1980s Sports Stadium. :(

RTE are getting a new set, TG. The brown set was dreadful from the out set.

Have to agree regarding RTÉ's brown set. The set between 2000-2003 was probably the best ever, but was accompanied by an awful theme tune. I still have no idea what the title sequence is supposed to be. I don't like RTÉ's current look at all (the music is alright, but I prefered the previous one)

TV3 News' current look, is however the best they have ever had by some way. Their previous sets have tended to look cheap and graphics not too great. TV3 News have used the same piece of library music as their theme since their second look (1999 or thereabouts) but the current arrangment actually makes it sound respectable.

Quality-wise though there's still no contest. RTÉ News is far superior (though with a seventy year head start and licence fee assistance it ought to be).

It's funny you mention that blue is the colour of news but thats only because we have been brainwashed by american, british and French TV news.

Why? Blue and Red>>> National colours.

I liked the green and blue colours that RTE used to have. Maybe I am being a bit too nationalistic lol

The current TG4 set is prob the best simple with some real features and some blue screening.

I like how the BBC have used their sets, and a move away from Blue and Red.

Also this thread is about 6 years out of date. Pity Lorraine Keane eventually got that entertainment show

That's not the reason they were chosen as news colours!

The main televsion news programme on Germany's ARD, Taggesschau, has a mainly blue colour scheme. Germany's national colours are black, red, and yellow. Blue also figures promenently in Spain's RTVE's Telediario, no blue in the Spanish flag...

I think its that blue is a soft colour. Its easy on the eye yet conveys an air of seriousness and authority.

Before RTÉ came along I had never seen a news organisation, anywhere, that had used brown as the main theme for its news studio. The BBC had used a creamy-yellow look that bordered on brown for its 1999 look, but RTÉ's is definitely chocolate brown and horrid.

I liked the 2003 look too. Maybe its the fact that it came after the great (despite the music) 2000 look that made it seem not as good. I liked the titles in particular even though the music was a bit OTT.

Check out "This is Nightlife" for an excellent satire/parody of TV3's cheesy pretentious style of broadcasting with a bit of Plank Kenny's tedium thrown in for good measure....

    Oh No!

Slated on boards.ie last year, got less than 60,000 viewers, slated by the critics. TV3 don't need to worry about "This is Nightlife" and Pat Kenny doesn't either.

But it gets the flavour (or is that flavor) of TV3 programmes accurately, and Exposed in particular. Vincent Brown could do with being ragged as well for his overbearing attacks on his deadbeat guests. No TV3 guest or presenter on any programme was prepared to say anything negative about the disgraceful St Steven's Day 'News Scoop' of Brian Lenihan's medical troubles. Must need the money too much.
