Self promotion of a commercial site is real "itch" issue with the MODs and Admins here and if you are advertising your own site then i shall say goodbye to you now.
    :)

/side note: Dalton are good guys, they do alot of Sky installations in my area.

With regard to advertising , I have seen several threads and replys form a guy who openly admits that he is in the business.............of course thats not say that I am.

Tony asked for feedback/help on the new design of his site not "heres my site, buy $hit from us".

So then Chernobyl , what do you think of daltontvsystems.com compared to tony's site? ,maybe we should ask anyone who reads this reply for their view on the matter.

    Kind regards

    Ok-nice site:)
Not very usefull though if you are a regular here as ICDG is the place to be for the news as it happens:):D :)
Speaking personally,I don't think it's a good idea to have a thread, the objective of which is to place comments on a commercial site.

Fair enough Tony did that, but for a purpose-he was looking for feed back on the design and "de-bugging" of his new site from users of this forum.
Those users have benefited from Tony's words of advice very often and the general direction of that thread was a quid pro quo, in that it turned out to be very educational .

Nice site with some interesting ideas on "out of warranty" swap out for digibox's. It's good to see I'm not the only one on the web in the satellite field.

I'm new to this forum but if you have a rule about advertising it must be accross the board. If this Tony guy can ask people to look at his site, for what ever reason, then others can too. Just because he gives advice does this mean he gets preferentail treatment?

As I say I'm new, I don't know Tony and have nothing against him, but surely rules must be the same for everyone.

Tony is the guy who posted above you;) I (and most ICDG regulars) didn't have a problem with Tony asking for help debugging his new site. That thread itself even helped me out with a query!:)

Anyway, he did get a warning and the thread has died off.

I even reported myself to a moderator:D Seriously though I wish to withdraw my original thread as it seems to have set a precedent which is being interpreted by others rightly or wrongly. My apologies for the controversy this seems to have started.

    Morning all,

As regards advertising and plugging commercial websites, I will await a decision from Ronan (Mr. ICDG to the rest of ye) He's the one who writes the rules.

Tony graciously reported his own thread to the moderators, but as was mentioned by mm and irishbyte, he was only asking for his site to be debugged. I certainly saw no harm in that, because Tony is a good friend to the board and is ever helpful, but I can see that some folk could see that it was a way of getting to buy from him.

Its the lads who come in, (must.....not.....say....newbies....) plug their site and run off and siphon news and posts directly from these forums that get on my wick, (yes, yes you, mafoo1!)

In the meantime.... I will close this thread and the original site debugging thread.
