HI DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU CAN ACTIVATE A FTV CARD AS WELL AS SKY CARD? MY DIGIBOX IS NOT CONNECT TO THE PHONE LINE. JOHN

mod edit: Split from RTÉ Testing Now thread, and its common courtesy (netiquette) to not type in caps. It can be seen as shouting.

yeah you can. Its possible to have both cards married to the same box and just switch between them.

I was wondering does anybody know if it is possible to get a new bbc card activated without knowing the original addressee. I bought a digibox with a card on e-bay recently but the seller would not give the original address of the card. The card was never activated in the past. If I rang up with a uk address would sky activate the card anyway or do they need the original address that the card was sent to?

When I rang up to activate my card, I was asked first for the card number and the guy read back the address.
I said thats it and then he asked for the box serial number and that was it!

BTW its a bit foolish to buy a card off ebay when the owner wont give the address?

I've activated 5 cards, and each time I rang up (blocking my number just to be sure), they asked for my name and address. I always gave the exact name and address that the card was obtained in.

I suppose you could keep ringing up, giving the card number untill you find someone who reads out the address, and hanging up for the others! ;)

If you're just buying the card alone, then it is foolish, expecially if it hasn't been activated. If it has been activated, you'll be able to get ITV1, CH4, CH5 in any digibox, but if it was never activated, then the EPG will look exactly the same as if there was no card in it, and no FTV channels will work, even if added into Other Channels.

Thanks! I will give it a try although I am not hopeful. The guy I bought the box off only told me (afterwards) that he would activate the card for uk residents only and that it was not "legal" to activate the card in eire

Read the contract with the card; it says something like "for use in UK & ROI only". ;) Of course its just a general document not customised for FTV cards, but its possible that the guy that sold it to you won't know that. :)

I got my friend to do the honours with the bbc in the uk. The bloke didnt ask for any serial number of the box for a start.I even got him to ring S4C for the laugh and got S4C activated.Again they didnt want to know anything except the card number. I guess it depends who answers the phone???
Best of luck and remember to cancel Sky while you are in the mood for free tv>>>
