after failing my driving test just today :( i couldn’t be bothered to do anything else but watch a movie. luckily, due to some excellent parcel delivering methods a copy of the film No Man's Land came to my house. excellent.

i’ve been looking to see this movie for quite some time since it came out in 2001 but it looks like the irish cinema board isn’t interested in some semi famous foreign oscar winning film like this, and only brings us other fantastic titles such as the Scorpion King or Queen of the Damned, pfft (crap movies have royal titles in them, except for king ralph and the upcoming lotr: return of the king)

this movie revolves around two people, chiki and nino, a muslim and a serb, who find themselves stranded in the front line trench between the two armies who daily exchange fire over the unused trench. actor that plays chiki is famous in the former yugoslavia for playing a character in a satirical comedy show before the war. black humour ensues and some very funny scenes are always covered up by the current situation that they are in.

their struggle to escape from the trench brings in focus their two sides, the UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) and media reporters, who at some point get compared to "fucking vultures".

the movie puts you right in the middle of the conflict and if you haven’t been following things regarding the balkans war, you will be able to slide in very easily and enjoy this cinematic flick.

i recommend this movie to anyone, but i don’t think its ever going to reach irish cinemas any time soon. shame. back to GTA3 :)

Yes, this looks interesting. Didnt it win something at the Oscars?

Now all we need is Donnie Darko, Vidoque, Shurayuki Hime, Ishi the Killer, Session 9(?), Spirited Away, etc etc and we are set.

id be very suprised if the IFC haven't screened this already or aren't in the process of doing so, not all Irish cinemas are bad ! :)

I keep a close eye on things in the IFC and the latest brochure sucks like the last one :(

It's a drought I tells ya. But dont get me wrong now, I would have the IFC's babies...
