    Im using redhat 7.1.
after reinstalling windows 2000 on the first partition it over wrote the MBR and now i dont have lilo no more.

Is ther any easy way of getting it back?

Iv made a boot disk using boot.img and dd.
This is fine but it is only a boot disk into the installation process.

anyone know how i could make a boot disk that wud jus boot into the linux partition?

    any other suggestions......

    that might be handy.

Basicly boot up with the boot disk.
Mount your partitions and re-run lilo. It will install itself into the mbr. You will need to add in the option for win2000 of course as well into the lilo.conf.

Will the install disk not allow you start up the kernel on the HDD??

Only thing I can think of is to get your hands on a free windows-based bootloader until you get a boot disk made?

(Oh and you did know there's a shell available to you while installing didn't you? Toggle through the F-Keys + Alt and you'll find it - you may be able to create a boot disk in there)

you should be able to boot to 'rescue' mode with your redhat install cd and then run 'lilo' to reinstall.
