I've been told by people in the know that the port Flash comes in on is sometimes blocked by firewalls.

Is this common or is it just a rare case?

    Anyone know?

Err I'm 99% sure that Flash/Shockwave etc. are all transported using http i.e. port 80.

However some streaming flash apps may use another port, and trouble could be caused there.

It can be blocked, it was on our network. Loading up the MS Proxy Client got around it though.

Flash (.swf) Files are kept on the http server accessable by anyone who has access to the webpage itself.

If you can download the html, jpegs or gif files, you will also be able to download the .swf

HOWEVER, if you use the feature in Flash 5 (publish) It adds in a line of html code which will check the clients PC for the presence of the Flash 5 Player. If it doesnt have it, it may try to contact a forign host on a port other than 80, (not totally sure tho)
