Firstly is it possible to capture an animated gif from a flash file.
if so how? (dont think its possible)

else is there any freeware software out there that you could use to make your own. any help in the general area would be great.

Haven't really used any free GIF stuff recently, but the animation studio that comes with PSP is not bad. I used to use The Gif Construction Kit years back.. dunno if it's still on the go.

If you've got Photoshop, use ImageReady.

Re. Flash: Have a google for that. I imagine there are tools that will do it.

you can export flash frames as gifs(if you have the flash program and its your own flash file and not locked.) then reassemble them in a gif animation program.
Im afraid i dont know a free one. do a search on download.com.
Flash is what i normally use for designing animated giffs.
