The IEDR has just shut down the IEDR Forum. I won't comment on this at this time, but I have set up an alternative [please see note about IE Forum a few posts down]. The new forum will serve two purposes:

    a) as a direct, open replacement for the IEDR Forum; and
    b) for the discussion of general DNS issues as they apply to Ireland.

All posts on this new forum are the responsibility of the poster, and I disclaim all liability. You may wish to let previous members of the IEDR Forum know about the new list, as the IEDR gave no notice of the closure.

This forum is currently not affiliated with IE Watch in any way, shape or form [please see note about IE Forum a few posts down].

    IE Domain Registry Limited Forum

IE Domain Registry Ltd. wishes to announce the
deactivation of the IEDR Forum with immediate effect.
This will be the last posting.

Whilst highly useful at its inception, it has become
apparent over the last twelve months that the Forum is
not sufficiently representative or widespread in its
membership. Postings have increasingly emanated from a
narrow sector of the ‘Forum Community’ – rather than
    the e-Business/e-Commerce communities and the
    general public Internet community.

The Registry considers that the tone, nature and
content of some postings in the recent past
demonstrate a lack of netiquette and have discouraged
other less prolific users from making a contribution.

Whilst the Registry does not actively discourage the
establishment or work of interest groups whose
concern is the .ie namespace, such as the emergence of
IEwatch, the Registry considers that the Forum is not
the appropriate place in which such groups should be
organised - this being a forum for individuals not sub-
    groups.

Recently, our ezine, ‘inside.ie’ (www.inside.ie) was
established. Now approaching its fourth monthly issue,
the feedback received has been very constructive -
whether complimentary or critical - and the Registry
now concludes that this is a more productive use of
resources than that applied to the Forum. Naturally the
IEDR will continue to actively seek regular
contributions from former Forum members for
publication in future issues of ‘inside.ie’ and
acknowledges that such ‘inside.ie’ contributions to date
    – whether complimentary or critical – have been
productive. This contrasts sharply with many postings to
the former Forum, which as stated above, demonstrated
a lack of netiquette, and worse. This, in turn, created
    potential problems for our insurers/underwriters.

    Regards,
    Mike Fagan
    IEDR

I thought you said forum - the link you've posted is for a mailing list.

The IEDR Forum was a mailing list, i.e. it was a forum in the dictionary sense, as against the web sense. Mailing lists are the way most people involved in the DNS in Ireland prefer to communicate.

Please note that the IEDNS forum I set up has been deprecated by a new forum managed by IE Watch. To subscribe, please visit the list home page at:
