    does formatting you're drive get rid of the master boot record?

    yeah its my understanding it does.
    windows writes to the mbr on the very first boot.
    if you wanna format it manually though
    from a boot disk
    A:\fdisk /mbr
    make sure you dont have a supervisor pass enabled on the bios or it will report your format as a virus.

    Formatting in DOS does not remove the MBR.
