NT Server Installation Problem

I am trying to install NT server on an AMD K6-2 with 64Mb RAM. It already has WIN98 on it working fine.
I have all FAT partitions created using MS-DOS.
When I do a WINNT /b all the files copy and it tells me to restart.
NTLOADER gives me the choice of NT or 98, it goes into NT and a couple of seconds later in the WINNT setup blue screen it tells me vgaoem.fon could not be loaded and to exit setup.

Anyone got any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

not 100% positive about this, but try winnt32 /b
other than that all i can think of is it doesnt like your monitor smile.gif
or justy create start up disks and install from them.....

Im not sure but isn't winnt32 for upgrading previous versions of winnt?
I already tried using the disks with the same error.
Monitor is a brand new LG 15" couldn't be that ... could it??

winnt32 is for running in a windows environment.

    I would...
    1. Boot up using DOS disks.
    2. Do a search for vgaoem.fon and rename every one I find to vgaoem.old.
    3. Install using boot disks.

Because your installing on an existing system it may be seeing the vgaoem.fon as a later version and not overwriting. Or detecting the wrong one.

But maybe I'm misreading. Do you want a duel boot setup?

Yes Im aiming for a dual boot system, its not necessary but if I could I would have it

Should I have run winnt32 as I was in a windows environment?

can you boot using the CD?
if you can it's the easiest option.

look in bios for boot setup mode and put the CDROM as the first device, in front of THE HD and floppy.

Boot using the CD and then go through the normal setup, when asked about formating the HD make sure you select:

leave the HD as is, do not format. i think its the last choice...

If your going for a dual boot, I would recommend installing each OS to different drives. Set up two primary drives. Boot manager in NT should be able to handle the rest.

what Dir did you install NT into? it cant be c:\windows as win98 is there (well it should be)

the best is to do what hobbs said, make two disk partions. Install 98 first (which you have done) and then NT on to the second drive.

I have 4 FAT16 partitions at the moment.
I dont even get to where it asks me what drive to install NT into.
I have one primary drive and the rest are logical drives in the extended partition. Would this be the problem.

The temporary setup files are copied to the c: but ive got win98 installed into the d: which i will later change to FAT32.

For some reason the Nt CD isn't bootable while the WIN98 CD is??

    feeling helpful...

    http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&SD=GN&LN=EN-US

use that link to search MS technet...put in the EXACT error code you get a blue screen of death...ie the number at the top of the screeen. its there for a reason believe it or not.

also you could try changing the video card, but if aint that then its the dodgy CD, try another.

I don't have another CD so that options out. This CD worked for someone else recently.

Its not a BSOD its just the normal NT setup screen, I dont get to install it at all before it dies
