Why Did you start smoking?(just out of curiousity)

IN light of Bards thread about giving up smoking I taught i would pose the question "why did people start to smoke". Just out of curiousity. Was cuz of stress, friends boredom, other?

In order to look cool. Seriously i smoked the occasional few, but one time my walkman broke and i can't walk 5 feet without it. So i started to smoke more foten while walking to and from college and been smoking sregularly ince then.

Boredom, got really bored one summers day, bought a pack of smokes and never looked back, well, except for three months ago, when I looked back that is.

in some places it's easier to get hash than fags when you're under 16 so you're kinda at a loss. hey SheroN you're not doing too mush work yourself.

I used to only smoke when out drinking and it stayed that way for about 2 years - then started working in a nightclub where all the staff and customers were always smoking and just slipped into the habit of smoking whenever I was bored. Bad Kolodny....

That's why I started anyway, there was a likkle element of trying to look cool too but the majority of the reason was curiosity

When I first went to secondary I noticed the smoking gangs that hung outside.

Sure they all looked cool in a way. But I also noticed that none of them were particularly tall.

So on the basis that it *could* stunt my growth I abstained and went on to outgrow my relatively short parents by about 9 inches.

i swear to myself that i don't *actually* smoke- i light up occasionally in the pub if someone offers me one, but i've never actually *bought* a packet of cigarettes- enough of my friends smoke to facilitate my bumming nature! i only smoke like one or two every once in a while, then not again for weeks and weeks!

i originally smoked one or two so i could learn to smoke weed- i'd never smoked before that, so rather than be the gobshíte sitting in the corner spluttering when the spliff got passed, i tried a few cigarettes!

(as for the weed - that was out of curiosity, and it looked like fun when my mates got stoned so i gave it a try!)

on a related note, i think people who smoke should be given a reduced wage to those of who do not smoke. The ammount of lost working hours per year due to people having fag breaks! :cool:

i started smoking in the later stages of a failing marraige as i couldnt deal with it falling apart and i couldnt take to the drink with 3 young uns to care for and who needed me to be alert 24/7, so smoking was the ovious choice and i loved it, i loved the smell, but funny enough it never was the first thing i did when i woke up... coffee was and still is!!!

i so loved my smokes but my daughter is highly asthmatic as am i so it had to end, now im your worst nightmare, i hate the smell and would never date a smoker. yet i still follow the smell of a pipe, there is something mystical aobut that fragerance dont you think

cool factor pld a big part but it was a whole big combo of things and the main one being it was a beautiful sunny day and we were running round the house with nothing to do.....

I started because I was v.curious and my mother smoked, one day I went up to my room to find samba (my bro) up on the roof beside the skylight with a cigar which another mate had taken from some box my Dad had been given as a present. It was horrible but funny and entertaining and always seeing my mother and other people savouring the flavour, made me want to try more......[snip12yrslater] I'm now going on 24 in August and I wish I had never touched one of the little F*ckers in my life!:tired:

Well I don't smoke, but in my last job I always used to go down for a cigarette break.

That said, i worked from 8 am to 4 pm, took 30 mins for breakfast at 10 am, 45 for lunch at 1 pm (over an hour on sunny days ... walkies) and another 30 at 3 pm for a cuppa, so I couldn't exactly be described as a productive employee.

Oh and I didn't go in on fridays. So much for 39 hours.

The rest of my day consisted of IRC, Web Surfing and talking to my colleagues.

Yeah i aslo don't thinkn smoking is particularly good. Its getting worse to cuz I've seen 11 and 12 yr olds smoking so thats pretty bad! I think they a really manky and thats why I posted this thread to see why people satrte dup such a nasty habit!
