    Bloody hell!

Y'know you really have to have nerves of steel to follow Liverpool,
hours of bordom then moments of high anxiety followed by relief.

They should shade the return leg as Bayer have to get two goals.

    Mike.

Yeah honestly... I watching the game there and all you could see was dull, bored Liverpool fans looking on. Seriously, I'm not just posting this to take the piss outta liverpool. It can be seen in the stands, even the Anfield announcer is boring!

How do you do it PiE?

The two matches tonight were terrible. I saw all of Liverpool's match and i'd say there was about 5-10mins of exciting football in the whole thing and thats being generous. I only saw the highlights of Barca V panith and that seemed to be a dull affair aswell. What has happened to this once great tournament?

Have you not been watching United in europe this year?
27 goals in 13 games, liverpool 10 in the same number.
Really, Liverpool have become the poor man's bayern munich.

This season has been so exhilarating, there have been so many classic matches. It deserves better than for Liverpool to win anything:D

Yeh, if i didn't despise ManU i might recognise their talent. Wait a sec...what am i saying.... DOWN WITH THA SCUM!!!

I agree with you there but UEFA have their backs against the wall on this one. If they dont let in more teams, they might start their own league which would cripple Uefa financially.

Granted it did slightly take the shine off United's 98/99 victory, the fact that we were only Premiership runners-up the season before. Still, can't say they didnt deserve it, twas an epic journey to da final, epic final too.

ps Hyypia is just too darn good; sometimes it seems a hopeless cause trying to score gainst the pool. He's like steve nicol used to be, really annoying:tired:

Yeah, Liverpool can be so dull at times. They get the job done but the fans wouldn't be long getting pissed off if results started to go badly. You do need some entertainment from games. They are very good sometimes but theres nothing worse than watching a game where the home team are playing as if they were the away team.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 78 ✭✭four_star

that was the most boring game of my life last night and the goal was fitting for the match-a big scrap at the goal. when a defender gets man of the match then you know you've had a boring game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

You know not all their matches are boring. The Roma one wasnt and the uefa cup final last season wasnt either.
Man Utd can be boring to watch too. You are just more likly to see goals in their games because their defense is muck and their attack is really good.
This season has been so exhilarating, there have been so many classic matches. It deserves better than for Liverpool to win anything

And who should then? Utd? What classic matches were they in?

They sound more exciting on the radio
ITV: and now its Murphy with the ball....passes it across to Smicer
Five Live: liverpool on the counter-attack now, thats a great ball to Smicer...could be a chance here

I'd prefer to listen to the radio commentary while watching the match but the TV messes up the MW reception

Two exciting matches in two seasons! Not bad I suppose for the team described as the "Murderers of Football" by the local Barcelona papers last season after the game in the Nou Camp.

"Two exciting matches in two seasons! Not bad I suppose for the team described as the "Murderers of Football" by the local Barcelona papers last season after the game in the Nou Camp."

If your best chance of surviving is to go to the Nou Camp and look for a nil-nil draw, then why not go for it?
Should they have gone and attacked straight away from the start? If they would have done so they would have been murdered. So whats wrong with that choice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

So tell me liverpool fans, as im a 'boring boring' arsenal fan - Hows that show fitting now that its on the other foot?:)

Pish pash moan groan; say what you like. Liverpool are winning and thats aaaall that matters.

I heartily endorse this opinion and fact

Exactly. When it comes to playing attractive, attacking football the scousers will lose every time against the technically better teams like Barca, Real, United, Bayern and Deportivo. Instead they prefer to sit deep, defend and play on the break.

When you play like that at home to Leicester its pretty sad.

And where are Utd in the league? Where are Barcelona in La Liga? Just goes to prove that you can have the best attacking team in the world, but its all useless if yer defense is crap.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

But we still haven't lost the title yet. And we have won it for the past 3 years. So what do you have to say about that?

As it now looks like a Liverpool-Man Utd semi final,
who do you think will win, bearing in mind the respective strengths and weakness' of the two.

I'm biased of course but even if I was'nt I'd go with Liverpool
as the team least likely to make a mistake.

    Boring but true! :)

    Mike.

For the past few years, Utd have had no decent competition. Its only now that teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and to a lesser extent Newcastle starting to challenge them, and Utd havent dominated like before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

They were pushed all the way in the league and cup in 99 by Arsenal when the were defending both competitions.

After that season Arsenal sold Overmars and Petit and have taken until this season to get back on track. The last two seasons were too easy but they can only beat whats put in front of them. Its not Uniteds fault the scousers have been crap for 10 years.

The euphoria coming from Liverpool supporters at the moment is understandable but as soon as results start to go against them (maybe next tuesday?) we will hear the moaning. Why? Because Liverpool are probably the most boring team in the League and this present side will never compare with the flair, exciting Liverpool teams of the 80's or for that matter the present Man Utd team.

    Mark my words.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Sigh, you people aren't listening to me.

Houllier set out to build a team that was structually solid. He bought players that would work for the ball and work for the team, everyone else he let go. Doing so implies that he wanted to build the team from the back. And thats exactly what hes doing. He's got an excellent defence, two excellent center-midfielders who all work for the ball, excellent passing players in Gerrard & Hamann also and finally he's got Owen, the best English striker by a mile. The foundations are being laid. All Liverpool need now are two attacking wingers (Smicer&Berger just dont cut it I'm afraid). Once the team is as solid as he thinks it can get, then he will begin to invest in one or two attacking players (Overmars?), and allow the players to attack more often.

Then we'll have a team with the meanest defense, hardest working midfield and finishers in the class of Michael Owen.

    Weeee.

Lets just wait and see and if Liverpool progress to the European Final and win the League, con'grats. But on the other hand if the Germans beat them 2-0 on tuesday and the pool finish 3rd in the league I don't think PIE and other pool supporters will be quite so "la de da" about their team?

Romour mill has it that Damien Duff is been lined up for a move to Anfield in the summer and that would give the pool supporters something to crowe about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Duff, Overmars... attacking players, see? Houllier might feel its time to build up his attacking options now.

Nobody really expects Liverpool to win the CL in their first appearance, and everyone expects Arsenal to win the league now, so really... whats your point? If we come 3rd it will be down to the teams mistakes, not the manager (who hasnt been around for the majority of the season) or the style of play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

If Houllier buys and plays two new attacking wingers they may not have that solidity for much longer.

Duff and Overmars may be brilliant going forward and I am sure Duff would do his share of work defensively but Overmars! You can forget about him coming back.

Maybe then the defence may be shown up more as instead of a back eight they now have a back six so there is a lot more work to be done by those six.

It has nothing got to do with "more competition" remember we lost against yourselves, Chelsea, Arsenal, WEST HAM, MIDDLESBOROUGH, and BOLTON! C`mon now we have only made it hard for ourselves this season.

There may have been lots of goals, doesnt make them classic matches.

Liverpool beat Ipswich 6-0 but it wasnt really a classic match.

I think it's funny that whenever a thread starts with either Utd or Liverpool mentioned in it, it just becomes a fight between supporters of the 2 teams.

    Yea!

Uh that kinda proves that it does have something to do with more competition, Man Utd lost to three of their biggest rivals.

If Houllier brings in attacking players, they'll be replacing players like Smicer and Berger, who arent exactly world reknowned for running their arses off the ball anyway.

Rivals my bollocks... Liverpool are our only rival out of those three. The others (Chelsea, Arsenal, *enter name here*) like to think that they are rivals when we really don't give a crap about them. And the only reason why we lost against you was because the United players were not prepared mentally for the matches. Which could be clearly seen on the pitch. That was the United staff fault in my opinion. We should have got someone decent in to fill Steve McClarens boots. That is the way I see it anyway.

2 wingers and maybe one more defender to cover Hyppia and Henchoz and that would be a magnificent Liverpool team. Atm their main problem is that theyre passing it all the time Centrally with no decent wing players putting in crosses, that imho is the main reason why they seem so boring is the constant centralness. One the other hand at the end of the day its results that matter, no matter how poor the performance.

Also I feel that Hyppia should be one of the candidates for Player of the year. He does his job superbly and imho yad be hard pressed to find a better central defender in the league atm.

And pornoqueen united will win nothing this year. I agree with WWM on his opinion of you.

Now back to the bloody topic. I honestly think that Arsenal will win the league now. I can't honestly see anyone stopping em. I can see United getting three points off em but they will win all their other games. All United can do is keep winning and hope for the best.

Bard that game was only exciting because the Utd defence was so poor! A bit like the crazy Newcastle-Liverpool games under Keegan and Evans.

Now if Man Utd had Liverpools current back five...er no I wont go there! :D

Aye, Arsenal have it wrapped up now. The only real chance they had of slipping up was the Spurs derby (and they oh-so-nearly did ;\) and the Man Utd game. But it'll be over before that match so bah.
