    watching news last night and this **** was on it,(not 6.01) they were talking about how downloading software harms investment into Ireland and cuts off government revenue,
    then the last statement which I loved was
    software piracy of the internet may damage Ireland chances of becoming the e hub of Europe, I think eircom ****ed this one up all really.

    Joe22, you really do come from "The land of make believe blarney and bullsh|t" if you think it's ALL Eircom's fault. Ireland has had a very bad level of software piracy for a long time now.

    RTE News do drudge these Internet stories up occasionally when they've nothing better or actually newsworthy to report. This is by no means a new story.

    As I quoted elsewhere:

    The "Actual measureable loss" to the industry caused by software piracy, according to MSNBC:
    <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
    From: http://www.msnbc.com/news/553728.asp?cp1=1

    US 25% $3,191.1 m
    UK 26% $679.5 m
    Japan 31% $975.4 m
    Ireland 51% $117.9 m

    </font>

    ... speaks for itself really.

    sorry joe? eircoms fault that everyone in ireland nicks software? what the **** are you talking about? Perhaps if eircom see that people in ireland use their existing connections to steal loads of software, they can use this to try and justify not rolling out broadband? Is that what you are saying? Cos otherwise I don't see what eircom have to do with this. Its against eircoms terms of service, as with any other isp, to download pirated software, anyone who downloads it does so of their own free will.
    You are being incredibly smarmy about rte's coverage, but try and point out why you find them so wildly off the mark.

    What part of that is difficult to understand...? Looks like a straightforward tongue-in-cheek comment about how Irelands chances of becoming an "e-hub" of europe is already fux0red by eircom (ie., lack of affordable fast connections) ...let alone any damage the issue of pirated software etc...

    I am with brother licksy on this, the post has two aspects. The news was reporting how piracy harms investment into ireland and its becoming an e-hub. Joe is saying 'really, is this not being ruined by eircom??'. For more on this there is a story today about the head of Microsoft Ireland complaining about broadband costs etc.

    Sure, eircom have their heads in the sand, but if the government wanted us all to have broadband, and to make ireland the e-commerce hub of europe, it could do it. Eircom just isnt being forced, thanks to the terrible telecoms regulator. Also chorus and ntl dont need eircom's help to roll out their broadband solutions, and where are they? Look at the bigger picture.

    firstly, look at the size of the country. its tiny and there has been an increase of internet users in such a small country, of course the percentage is going to be higher.

    2ndly, we are lazy as Yo Mamma have pointed out already.

    3rdly, i dont really think the problem is in ireland cause when is the last time you heard of warez/distro groups originating in ireland?

    yea, £60M to Croke Park, £50M proposed on Berties private jet.... I mean fs, that's about equal to the amount of assistance the government are offering the 13 license holders to assist them introducing broadband. They're also giving them ****loads of international bandwidth at a cheap undercut price. The government could bring in broadband if they wanted nps ... they're just lazy **** *******s who r too interested in pay rises and corporate donations then something like this ....

    Oh Yeah it's all Eircom's fault....

    So why don't you have NTL cable or Chorus wireless broadband, you dumb mthrfkrs.

    NOBODY - not eircom, not ntl, not chorus is willing to offer you broadband.

    It isn't a monopoly anymore, christ sake they don't even use the same technology.
    We're too small a market to make a profit, get over it.
