What's the story with Ireland Live Television ?

I just had a look and Bob Gallico is announcing that it's Monday the 25th of March !!

I guess it could be some kind of review show, but surley they should do some new links.

It really doesn't look good for this service. All the other strands (music news etc) have a "coming soon" label.

Has anyone actually seen a decent live news broadcast on this service ?

Yes, it is a review show, and not very well put together either. It seems that the 5 days are just put together and left run all weekend. So If you want a 5 day old weather forecast you know where to go. God help us if anything happens at the weekend. and I used to moan about TV3 News.

When one thinks of Bob Gallico, you think of a great Radio personality. Sadly I think that his performance on Ireland Live television is not the best. Although I dont blame him, as I am sure the production crew have a lot to answer for.
Its a great concept. The first 24 hour Irish news station. As I waited to watch its launch, I was reading the company profile. They should rename it Andy Ruane Television, as the entire credits were all given to him.
Ok so its his company but when you log on to the Sky website you dont see a glowing tribute to Rupert Murdoch.......
Ireland Live News, could be a lot better. I hope that someday we may see it on Sky Digital, but it needs a 100% improvement.

How can it be Ireland "Live" News if there's no live programming over the weekend ?

At the end of the day, Ireland will get a 24 hour news station, (which is live more than half a hour a day) this is not it. It's live, when? the programme always seems to be recorded. Last year I was aboard on st patrick's day and Live ireland were only weeks away from launching at that time, A year later they seem to be broadcasting a radio report from INN.

It is easier to listen to INN aboard on one of the local radio stations on the web, rather than accrss this. If I want to watch news from Ireland, RTE have fresh VIDEO News 3 times a day, Plus Nationwide, primetime and Q and A. Even if TV3 put their 5.30 news on a video loop it would be 50 times better than this.

PAC MAN I agree I would lke to see a 24 hour news service on SKY from Ireland for Ireland, but this is not the one.

(Like it? Love it? Not today thank you )

It would be nice even if Sky News (IRL version) had opt outs for Irish news at certain parts of the day.

    I disagree Irishbyte.

I'd prefer a full Irish news channel. I hate opt-outs in any service. You always end up feeling that you're missing something. If I'm watching a UK news channel, I want to see UK news (even though Sky News would claim to be for the UK and Ireland, it rarely covers anything other than the North).

The Dublin news radio station Newstalk, is starting next week. Good news for Dublin, but also the rest of the country. The more Irish news-gathering organisers there are, the more likely it is that we'll see a 24 hour Irish news channel.

With RTE in the dire straits it's in, they're unlikely to be the ones to provide it (at least any time soon).

Maybe if Ireland Live News did a content deal with TV3, INN, Newstalk etc, we could see a professional, interesting and intelligent news service for Ireland.

It's on 106FM. At the moment it's got a rolling promo saying how great it's going to be .... we'll see. Anyway it starts on April 9th.

Spin FM (Dance music on FM 103.8) is also due to start in next couple of weeks. They currently have a blank carrier.

David McWilliams (from TV3's Agenda) will be NewsTalk's breakfast presenter. Daire O'Brien will be mid-morning. Damien Kiberd will be the lunchtime presenter. At drivetime George Hook (rugby guy) will have the job of going up against Dunphy and RTE's 5 -7 live.

It sounds quite promising really, hence the idea that there's the substructure already in Ireland of a decent 24 TV news service.

Launching Ireland Live News as an internet-only channel seems very short-sighted and lacking in any real ambition.

i have said it before and i will say it again. why dont Sky give one of the 8 News Active screens to Irish news. how hard can it be. today i saw 4 screens devoted to the Queens mother. how hard can it be to give just one screen to us. Sky subscribers in this country pay a subscription every month. fair enough that Sky News is FTA but those who work there are being payed with our subs

Yea, that sounds like a good idea but we'll hardly ever see it happening. As for Ireland Live TV, it's a bit pointless being internet-only especially considering broadband is non existant and trying to watch it via dial-up is chronic.:(
