The Central Bank has predicted a recovery in the global and Irish economies. Good news from Dame St., finally. Although it must be noted that the recovery/upturn is expected to be "quite gradual".

It will be interesting to see what happens in the job market in the short term. Will firms continue to lay off staff or will they wait and hold on to their staff, confident of a recovery???

Hmmm... I think it will be very gradual.

Personally I think a lot of the layoffs came from companies that have been trying to cut down for years and have never had an excuse as such, semi-state companies usually get extraordinarily publicity when they lay off jobs, and the economic climate of late allowed them (and others) to do so with not as much back-biting from others as they can blame it on the "economic downturn"
