This taken from the Ireland.com website.

Lets just hope Berties not involved in sorting
the stadium out or it will be the next ice-age before they play here.

Dublin will have a professional team playing in the 2005-2006 Ice Hockey Superleague, it emerged today.

The sport endures a low profile in the Republic but the success of the Belfast Giants - winners of this year’s Superleague title after only two seasons in existence -has captured a strong following in Northern Ireland.

The Ice Hockey Superleague (ISL) already features franchises in six UK locations as well as Belfast. These are London, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Ayr and Bracknell.

Speaking today, ISL chief executive Ian Taylor said: "We know there is a loyal base of enthusiastic support for ice hockey in the Republic of Ireland and Dublin will provide a sound base for showcasing one of the fastest and most skilful games."

"The ISL firmly believes ice hockey will become part of Ireland’s great sporting traditions," he added.

The identification of the club’s owners and the location of a proposed stadium remain confidential and will be announced at a later date.

I for one would love to see this come to Dublin, my sister who lived in Boston for a couple of years said that Ice Hockey games were great entertainment and shes not exactly what I'd describe as a sports spectator type of person.

I believe that Ice Hockey actually originated in Canada. I would love to see this happen in Dublin.

I'd love to see the Dublin "Taigs" vs the Belfast "Jaffas", I wonder would David Trimble turn up :)

Canada-Thats even worse (what have the Canadians ever done for us :D). As for the local derby- plenty of goon action methinks, off the ice that is!
