I am a Sky subscriber in Somerset, UK.
I really want to receive the RTE channels when they launch on Sky this April but because i am in the UK the channels will be blocked.
One way around this is to phone up Sky and tell them i have moved to Northen Ireland,. they will then change their database and send a signal down for me to view the RTE channels.
The thing is, i need an address that i can say i have moived to and indeed, where they can send the bill, which, incidentley is paid by directr debit.
Is there anyone out there that can help?
Maybe I can return the favour some how?

    Ed

    Can't help you I'm afraid.

And I get the feeling yours will not be the last message loking for help in getting the Irish channels.

I feel Ed, you may have a battle to get the "dream ticket."

A lot of people down here would like it too. Its the best of both worlds. BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and RTÉ together.

If you do that, you will get the crappy Northern Ireland
versions of BBC1, BBC2 and ITV.

Surely HTV West (Or whatever you get) has got to be better than
    BBC NI or Ulster Television.

I have no doubt that in time soon somebody or several somebodies will morpheus and napster style set up the means to swap digiboxes with subscriptions between consenting and anonmyous adults.

Technically of course it's breaking the law and cannot be condoned:eek:
But the thing is theres no financial risk as such, in that if the other person stops their sub, you just stop yours and tranfer your Irish one back to theirs.
There would be a possible problem in the initial transfer of the boxes in that some method of guarantee would have to be found(ie: you sending a box but getting none back...) But no doubt the geniuses are working on that as we speak:D

In time as UTV and ch 4 etc appear on the Irish EPG all this box tranfer business will become Rife as it is as technically easy as the switching of the boxes-unless of course a phone line stipulation comes in of course.
    mm

Carrols,he'll still be able to watch his ITV region of choice via other channels, a small price to pay for RTE:p

I was speaking to Orla Mc Kibbin (UTV press officer) this am, amd i was asking her if their was any further news relating to UTV being on BSKYB ROI.She replied that UTV were still in discussions with the ITV Network about the copyright issues involved, and it may be some months before we get any results on this matter. So you might wake up some morning to find that its there. but they are very keen for it to happen

I've said before like this idea, not just for the benefit of the extra channels, there is a cute hoor in all us Irish and there is something sweet about coming up with a way around big business rules!

If you look at it one way there is a number of ways people can rip the other off - but at the end of the day each party risks the same as each other, and none of it is worth an awful lot anyway.

If mutual trust can work with people who swap entire houses and cars for summer holidays, then I expect the trading of a digibox for such a nice arrangement would be worthwhile.

Point taken about phone lines, but can Sky impose this once you own the equipment (i.e. after your contract is up). I doubt it. swapping boxes might actually lead to the end of the 'ownership of equipment' situation with Sky.

Only BBC1 NI would you be stuck with.
    BBC2 gives all national varients
ITV can be programmed to get any ITV region.
So you'd only be stuck with BBC1 NI

BBC NI is a damn good region though - I enjoy being "stuck" with it.
