    The latest book in the new series, wich has seen the deaths of chewbacca and anakin skywalker, the conquering of the republic capital coruscant, and the destruction of countless worlds, brings a big slowdown to the story line.

    Each book so far has been pretty fast paced, even the series books, this book brings you down to a serious bit of character development with jaina solo....

    <spoiler alert>

    with jacen captured by the yuzhan vong and anakins funeral just over jaina becomes the apprentice of kyp durron. she convinces him to teach her some of the darker force powers like removing peoples memory. she quickly puts this to use as she initiates genetic experiements on a captured peace brigader, the ultimate goal is to find a usable weapon against the extra-galactic invaders.

    This proves too much for her family and most of her friends, and they leave for eclipse base (the secret jedi enclave) leaving only a message of "find your way back".

    Her investigation does however reveal a bounty, they find a way to confuse the enemy sensors, this leads to a few scattered confrontations wich seem to go in favour of the jedi cause.

    the death of teneniel djo see's tenel ka taking over as queen mother of the hapan worlds and revealing a fairly substantial battlefleet that had been hidden by her mother up until this point.

    the book ends on a fairly high note, the rebels have a usable weapon against the vong, the hapans have re-entered the conflict with a substantial fleet(with jag fel in command) jaina finds her way back to the light......

    the questions remain

    when will she attempt to rescue jacen?
    is anakin really gone?
    what will happen to coruscant?

    in all it was a great book, 300 pages and i read it in a few hours, i couldnt put it down, the only part i didnt like was the pintless'ness of Ta'a chume trying to match up isolder and jaina ?!!?

    Start with Timothy Zahn's trilogy; Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. They are the best Star Wars books i have read (by a long way) and are set 5 years after Return of the Jedi.
