Teletext on England fifa rankings

I could not believe teletext (ITV) the other day.....

"Germany above England in fifa table" the headline
"Despite thrashing the Germans 5 - 1 in munich last Sept, Sven Goran Erikssons men are down two to 12th, with the Germans up two to 10th. According to fifa website Germany rise comes on the back of 'an emphatic friendly win over Israel' "

I know to many people that fifa ranking is a load of sh*te, but if England should be above Germany because they beat them, then Ireland should move above Holland (9th).........

or do these rules only apply to the England football team (who since that game have 3 draws(Holland, Sweden, Greece) and 1 win (Albania)??

    What do you think?

*Ireland have in the last five games 4 wins (Holland, Cyprus, Iran, Russia) and 1 lost (Iran)??

It supposedly goes on points. Do you get more points for beating better teams? Ireland are 18th at the moment I think.
I wouldnt have thought that friendlys effect FIFA rankings as they are non-competitive.

Friendlies do have an effect but less than competitive games. The potentially confusing aspect of the rankings is that they are calculated on the games over the previous 5 (I think) years. This means that games that happened 5 years and 1 month ago no longer count so teams can lose points even if they don't play.

England should be number 1 because they won the world cup in 1966. FIFA is run by a bunch of German Nazis I tells ya!
