Without checking Astra's footprint i think no way, not even in good weather.

I think you should just get the DVB card and get the dish yourself.

I think you will need a 1M solid dish, that far west.

I was under the impression that there were two types of entertainment packs, one with and the other without the dish and just the DVB card.

Just ring them up, say you just want the DVB card which i think they are selling dirt cheap now, because a new one is to be released and they will proably send you a bank giro or something to pay them but credit card is best i think.

Many new and rich backers also Europe Online Investments S.A. has bought EON out completely.

It would be dumb to let the company go, it has so many customers that if managed correctly wil generate mega $$$.

Its the second oldest SAT "ISP" around...i think.

They were @ Cebit this year so all is well.

One of the lads from IRC 'Pokey' sent away for the starter pack ages ago and never got it, EON took his money though and when he complained to VISA they told him that they've had loads of complaints about EON and their taking action against them. I wouldn't send them any money just yet!

I ordered a DVB card and satellite dish from them a couple of days ago. They mailed me with my registration number. Haven't received hardware yet, but no money has gone out of my VISA account either. I figure I will just about get away with the 60cm dish in Dublin and if I don't no matter it was cheap to begin with.

I now see that they have droped the price to €59 for the DVB card and a subscription that only lasts until 15/10.

Which leaves me wondering if there will be a service after 15/10.

Still €59 for a DVB card is cheap enough as you'll still be able to use it as long as there are free satellites in the Sky.

I've sent a mail off to them to find out if there will be a service after the 15/10. I'll let you know if I hear anything but if anyone knows exactly what's going on then feel free to share.

Can't wait to see what it's like and a couple of my workmates are potential customers for EON too if everything goes well.

lol a german guy from EON rang me today, Couldn't understand a word he was saying. All I heard was ""You give me money, i give you satellite" lol

I thought that Europe Online was not an ISP, more like a service offering a limited number of web pages with high-bandwidth content over satellite, and no real access to the web ...

That's what I thought too. And being able to download stuff quickly (though I believe it's queued or something?)

Yeah Europe Online isn't a ISP, it is though in Germany. It offers Digital TV and A Download system which allows you to download 2MB/S or you can download normally but only get 200 - 300Kb/sec i think. I havn't got it yet but i know a good bit about it now.

After 2 weeks waiting I'm still without my card and dish.

So I phoned them up. Seems the delay is because the dish is sent from Holland rather than Luxembourg. Dubious, but I'll wait another week.

While I had a hold of someone there I asked why the new offer was only available until October.

The answer I was given was that they were revamping their service.
The gist of what he was saying was that by then they hoped to be operating like an ISP while still keeping the 2mb file download service running in tandem with it and their other ventures e.g. Porn, MTV channels and punters will then be charged according to the services they elect to use rather than for a package as a whole. I took from this that at the moment the other services are purchased over and above the standard €150 service but now it will be possible to get the other services without the download service at a cheaper price.

When I asked if the service would be one way or two way he was adamant the service would be one way only and you'd still have to use your dial up line.

As for my €150 subscription he wasn't very clear as to what I was going to be entitled to from October onward.

They will mail me on Tuesday with more information.

Supposedly the shipping department were on Holiday yesterday.

If I can discern the origin of the Dish I'll let you know.
