Does any one know anything about being a sole trader. can you be a PAYE payer at the same time? How hard is it to set up as a sole trader? Any web site that are easy to under stand and not full of Jargon?

    many thanks

If you are going to earn your main income as a sole trader (goods or services) you must register as self employed. You can continue to have a subsidiary employment where you pay PAYE (e.g. a consultant who has a part time lecturing post). You effectively earn during the year, pay VAT (and PAYE / PRSI for your employees) every 2 months and sort your own tax out at the end of the year.

Register your business / business name at:
    www.cro.ie

Register for VAT (over €40,000 goods or €20,000 services) / income tax at:
    www.revenue.ie

You will also need to talk to social welfare.

Can this topic be merged with the one in Business / Economy and a link left?
