    me me me!!!!!

i want this game so bad, im liking the fact that you get to team up with various famous stars, such as lando, luke and more...

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Yeah that should be cool. Unfortunately it isn't Mark Hamill as Luke, but it is Billy... something as Lando. :p

I just can't wait for the mass saber battles on-line! Thats one thing i loved about the first one. When you entered a game you could play duels or ffa and the people respected that, no lousy cheap kills from behind etc.

One of the best communities i've ever been involved with and i can't wait to go back.

    March 29th btw

Dont shoot the messenger here, but given the tremendous hype JK2 has received its quite likely there will be a hell of a lot of people playing it, at least initially - stands to reason a lot of these, who know little and care less about the golden rules of the JK1 community, might serve to spoil it for you :(

Sand is right, but there's a caveat here- using the lightsaber takes *skill* and willingness to play the single-player through, or to have alreadly played JK1(many of the moves are still the same except for the overpowered doubleslash). Also, for many of the multiplayer maps force speed will be disabled, a good move I think to limit the speed ninjas who lower the fun of the ffa by zipping around like horseflies on crack. The innumerable objects to hurl at people will be entertaining, as will the inevitable gripping & choking Vader-style.

Oh, as for the cheap saber kills from behind, your jedi senses (in the form of a grey cursor in front of you) will warn you of an enemy attacking from behind, that lets you avoid the cheapa$ses who try to avoid facing your blade. Have it pre-ordered already, /me checks his postbox for the third time today for notification.

i think this can be avoided by joining private servers and organised games.

not counting a few half hearted fumbles on Quake1 and the rest , I started gaming online with JK2 , and In all fairness I miss the chivalry still , while I admit I didnt become a full on sabriest till about 6 months in *Tried to get naff long range kills with the Repeater cannon, As anyone with any Sabre skills proabably knows its suicide :)* but one I learned the sabre It ranked as one of my most treasured online games , Its just a thought but does anyone know if the developers plan to incorperate a duel system , ala Severence or mebbe to a lesser extent T1?

I hope they go for a dedicated server system this time around, the peer-to-peer system lucasarts used in JK1 was really bad with lag and such.

MSN gaming zone can kiss my arse.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Yep, it uses the Quake3 engine so it has the same server system as it.

Only 2 days away now :)

    Um.

Sorry to throw water on the bonfire a bit, but, well, it's not very good. It's not a BAD fps game, but as far as I've got (and I'm several hours into the game) it's very formulaic and just, well, not stunning in any way. Bog standard Raven first person shooter.

The graphics are pretty dire too really - Wolf and MoH both look a lot better, despite using the same engine. Frankly I don't think I'd be playing still were it not for the fact that it's Star Wars - if it was a random unlicensed game, I'd have dropped it after the first level or two and never gone back.

Sadly uninspired, really. Guess that's what happens when you farm out a licence like this to a company who are known for churning out by-the-numbers first person shooter games, and then give them nine months to finish it... What's the odds on TA2 being the same level of disappointment, eh? :(

Having played it quite a bit over the last 2 days, dont expect a great singleplayer game, as shinji said theres nothing wrong with it, just dont expect too much, granted the graphics are not better than either wolf' or Moh but theres the scale of the multiplayer levels which really put Moh's to shame, Wolfenstien comes close... to be honest I'ld prefer the scale over the beauty...

Multiplayer on the other hand is pretty good. The light sabre can be extremely effective, if used properly, I have seen a few people decimate others using only a lightsabre on force abilites(not on sabre only servers), with 3 different style of fighting, its a most enjoyable weapon to use.

This time not all of the force abilities have to be activated in order to use them, eg, force jump is now active all the time.

I personaly think its worth the money and am quite happy with it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Celt

Monty, from your post it sounds like the only reason to buy it is because you get to use a lightsabre online :p

dunno but some of the lads love it..

it does nothing at all for me personally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭Monty - the one and only

hmm no its not the only reason...if I had continued on anymore I may aswell have written a review:o

The only reason I went on about it so much is, I happen to use it alot, where as most people seem to ignore it, bar the sniper rifle and rl launcher(sometimes these fail) its the only thing that can kill in one hit, garunteed, if used properly, I mean 84 kills just using a sabre and force abilities sort of proves how lethal it can be...(on an all weapons enabled server)

The game online has a certain style to it that I cant quite discribe, play it you may like it or you may not. I just happen to think its worth the cash.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Only reached the jedi training levels, but from what i've seen so far this pisses all over MOHAA and RTCW singleplayer - for me anyway.

just got my trusty saber, cant figure out how to get out of the stupid room tho :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,717 ✭✭✭Praetorian

So its officially available then? Im hoping Shinji is wrong and that it is the gr8 game pc gamer has promised me...if its not ill cancel my subscription ;(

Ive been looking forward to this since...well forever! Can you guys remember when Lucas arts actually made good games...themselves !?!?!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭Monty - the one and only

kaids throw your sabre at the pendulams(?) beside the doors

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

hehe yea i figured that when i went back in, realised i was able to do the saber throw.

also im having a small prob with JK2 - my controls keep getting reset every time i leave the game, and the screen res keeps going back to 640x480 too. any ideas ?

prae - if u liked JK1 you will like JK2 (imho, they are very similar, and i like both :))

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 536 ✭✭✭Spiffing

Highlight all the files in your JKII folder (or just the folder, not sure) and right click on it, then properties. It should be Read Only or something like that, uncheck it.

Little tip for those who haven't bought it yet.

    Game/EB: €60
    Smiths (with loyalty card): €45

No sign of the alleged freebie game in Game either.....

Well, for a counterpoint, I loved Dark Forces and JK1 to bits, and am finding JK2 tedious beyond belief in parts. Admittedly some of the lightsaber sections are decent enough, but the puzzles and level design are utterly dire. The multiplayer is also a definite case of "hmm, this is fun on a LAN for half an hour...".

Just to further that a bit. If you go into EB an see the for €60, get them to call up smyths or where ever and they'll have to give it to you for €45 because of the lowest price guarantee :P

Heh, I am loving this game to bits, jk with decent graphics and more saberplay. I got the free game with it (battle of naboo) installed it, but I haven't had the chance to play it yet, spending all my time at jedi outcast :)

Finished JK2 (2nd hardest mode). The first few levels were a little annoying but as soon as you get the Light Saber OMG :) Those poor men clad in white suits are fecked!

That is my only complaint....when you have the Saber and the force your nearly invulerable!

Its hard to describe how good it feels using force grip and throwing lots of Storm Troopers off the edge of a cliff :) Pure Heaven.

I have played more multiplayer after 4 days the singleplayer..
Yes , multiplayer is the way to go ....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 398 ✭✭Jelvon

finished it there yetersday, was it just me or was the end boss really easy to kill? I switched to strong saber style and used force speed and a couple of hits later he was dead! The game rocks multiplayer, dueling over our lan rules. Actually there is a double saber (aka same as darth maul's) hided in the multiplayer bit, to get it you need to devmap to a level then sv_cheats 1, put your saber away and type \THEDESTROYER in the console for a double blade saber.

I thought the developers planned to rip loads of the level designs from JD2? It's a pity they messed that up because it was the strongest element of the prequel.

Yeah that sounds about right. Netplay is disappointing imo because of the community thats there. A few mates on a lan and it rules. All you need is full force push, knock tem over and swing for the kill :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

    Force absorb negates force push.

A lot of the skills are paper-rock-sissors. For example. Absorb negates everything except drain + vengence.

I prefer the light skills over the dark.

Force absorb against any player who prefers to use force based attacks.

Force protect against players who prefer normal attacks.

Pull against players who prefer weapons over sabers.

Force Sight against players who mind trick or those camper sniper sobs (did you know lvl 3 force sight makes you automatically dodge sniper fire).

Someone who does a dark vengence, just pull back from them until they switch it off then whack em. They are pretty much screwed unless they can get some digs in.

grip, push are fun (especially on ledges). I tend to just use the saber and a minimal number of lvl 3 force powers.

btw, using mind trick on "Jedi Master" mod actually makes you glow! :/

I have played MOH, RTCW of the recent hyped games and now JK2 having loved the previous games. I beg to differ with Shinji on this one. I loved the single player game. You've got to be careful when you criticise puzzles in a game because some of us don't play games with puzzles. If you 'blow up eveything that moves' through alot of the recent games like RTCW, MOH then I think you'll appreciate the puzzles in JK2, not too taxing but fun to get past using force powers etc.
I think Raven have done well here. Especially when they seem to have a good reputation for no good reason. Voyager was piss poor imho and yet the mags all gave it good reviews. This time though they have more or less delivered the goods. Perhaps I was too distracted by the graphics in this game to fully analyse the gameplay - the saber fights look excellent so much so I didn't worry too much that most of the so called jedi you fight are more like jedi-fodder, it just looks so good when you are fighting them that as a pathetic Star Wars nerd like me you lap it up.
Again I disagree on the graphics being inferior to other recent games. MOH's graphics were ok. What made it for MOH was the real war atmosphere. RTCW looks sweet and I think JK2 looks just as sweet. Faithfull to the Star Wars universe you'll get the usual bizarre evil empire type architecture a la big gloomy drops to your death. and large open areas in sky cities and industrial planets. I'm sure there are weaknesses that I could concentrate on but I just love using the force and my saber far too much. O.k. I'm sad.
I've played it online too but only ffa and it's a mixture of good saber players, the usual lamo players and newbies who haven't figured out how to stop me force gripping them over a fatal drop and releasing them. It does look good though to rush into a room to see 6 or 7 players dueling with lightsabers. I think sticking to team based servers might be better.
Overall I say buy this game but I still say the 2 best games this year will be UT2 and U2.
