I don't care if this has been done to death before, It interests me. This quote from Toast got me thinking are there any ads that p1ss you off?

Toast:"What really gets my goat about Vodaphone is their current ad campaign. Lets take our ad filmed by the english, acted by the english and produce with an english audience in mind and show it to the Irish. Then!!!! lets wait 2 weeks and stick some irish words on it..... "

My current hate one is the McDonalds ad with the kid in the back of the car making faces and the bloke behind then pulling his fries out & eating them. Harmless ad, but annoys me because the ad came from Australia circa 1990 or earlier and the cheap bastards are still rehashing it.

Seeing as we are talking about ads which annoy. My current one is the Guiness ad where yer man is about to take a free in the last few minutes of a hurling match. I love that ad but it drives me nuts when they show the edited (shortened) version. Give it in entirity or give me nothing.

The one with the boyfriend asking can he have "one of these sweets" is pretty stupid too.

In tampax world, she carries them around in purse and shares them with all her pre-teen bungee-jumping, rollerblading, skydiving friends

The most annoying ads for me are the ones that take well known songs and change the lyrics so that the song's about their product...... like the Halifax ones lately, and hughes insurance, but mostly the one with the guy on the back of the swan that Halifax are using, it's bloody appauling.

The latest anti-smoking ad is great ...........when the Sh*t is squashed out of the veins of the heart.,

I really hate those ads. that appear most frequently on the satellite channel, with the shyster lawyers encouraging people to put in compo. claims.

"The Accident Helpline" and so forth.

They really make my blood boil.

    80p mounts his high horse...

I hate all alcholic advertising and its manipulative and misleading characteristics and should be BANNED from tv (and cinemas) now!

    Dismount

    BTW
    I echo that too Samson:)

the one i really hate at the moment is the one where the mother is having a glass of orange stuff and the pregnant daughter walks in and asks for some. the mother says "oh that's for my constipation". it makes me cringe when the daughter says at the end "let's call ourselves the [product name] family" i hate the whole lot of them. the mother, daughter and father

That Halifax ad with the swan is absolutely freaky. What the hell has a bloke on a swan got to do with selling a bank? On the other hand, that Levi's ad, with the guy running through the walls is pretty good.

I hatet that elephant.com ad, it goes:
"Don't you really hate insurance ads"
Then it proceeds to try and sell me insurance.

A good one is the ad where the man is kicking the crap out of a cartoon, he gets thrown down the stairs and then it pans around to show a real boy, and it has the slogan. "Children dont bounce back"
It was pretty funny looking until you see the boy.

Just to strike a positive note for a change, Microsoft and Sony are producing some interesting (and very expensive) ads at the moment, for the X-Box and PS2 respectively. I saw Sony's latest this evening, its quite surreal, something to do with a Wolf Man, but the animation is brilliant. Well done to any Sony advertising executives who happen to be browsing this forum at this very moment.

I quite like the way that the ad tries to enforce the fact that the stuff is safe to take during pregnancy by saying to the HIDEOUSLY DEFORMED daughter, "oh well your mother took it when she was pregnant with you" - the unsaid part being "and you at least have the right number of LIMBS even if you're a foul-looking tart who works in TV commercials!".

    Yeah, nice one guys!

(For the most part, I'm with Mills. The Halifax swan-abuser must die.)

i don't like cause when she suggests that she ask her doctor if it'd be ok to take it they convince her not too.... big 'no no' in my books

Yeah. I found it very effective.

My worst advert(s) has to be the hairdresser ones. Especially the one where the woman goes to the 'Hairdresser of the Year' and says 'I'm stressed' and says her hair is fooked up because of it. Utter rubbish.

i saw the XBox ad where the woman is having a baby and the baby pops out like a champaine cork. i nearly pissed myself when i saw it. if you have Sky you can see it at any time. go to the poker game on Sky Gamestar and press blue. they have the ad with the insects there too and a small piece on how they made them but that doesn't tell you much :(

    BUT

    we're getting there.

wtf is the point of this, and a total waste of money. only in ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

The last Eircell Add where the kids and the mother are in the back of the taxi, dublin looking realy cool and modern, that was a very good add.

Most annoying the kid on the AIB GAA League add you know "Where you There".

    Bloody awful ads:

    - "Wheyhey... just call us the fibogel family!!"

    - Red Bull animations (mainly seen in cinemas)

    - Debtbuster ads, specifically the quiz one ("Give me 6 reasons why people are refused loans") and the one where the couple are at the kitchen table calling a loan company together (and the woman looks like her laxatives have just kicked in!)

    - The new Dell ad ("Who was that?", "Dell. I was just ordering my new PC. Its got a pentium 4 processor", "Really?", "Yes really")

    - AOL ads (with that chirpy redhead)

    - Technically not an ad... the "Angel" promo on TV3 ("Aaaaaaaaangel..... can you see the sunshiiiiiiiiine") ... ugh!

    Good ads:

    - All the Budweiser Frogs/Lizards/Weasel ads ("What's canned?")

(They're the only ones I can think of!)

    - Dave.

    - insurance ads just for women.
    - one direct ads with some loser in an armchair
    - credit card ads where they argue over paying the bill and then end up comparing APRs.
