Recently built a computer and with it i installed a LITEON (i think its called) DVD drive. The problem is, the DVDs keep freezing and i need to reboot via the 5 second off switch method. Has any1 ever experienced this?

I have the HD and the DVD on the same IDE cable. Could that be the problem?

Could be the problem but not likely... Make sure the DVD drive is set to use DMA, make sure your mbd chipset and DMA drivers etc are installed also.. and try another DVD software like winDVD or PowerDVD.. dont know what you use but try another one...

Oh an eh try playing a normal AVI or Mpeg from your DVD software and not a DVD.. if it freezes there is nothing to do with the drive!

Cheers Saruman, I'm a bit of a newbie on DVDs. WHat exactly is DMA and how does one go about setting it to this?

Right click my computer, click properties, device manager, cdrom select you dvd drive and dbl click, then in the settings tab tick DMA but make sure your motherboard DMA/Chipset drivers are installed or it may not work right.
