Anybody watch the RTE 40th anniversary celebration programme "Here are your hosts"?
Overall I thought it was enjoyable to watch. The Nighthawks,
MT-USA, Youngline clips brought back many memories.
It was a pity that the cameras showed almost the same faces all the time from the invited audence.
Watching tonights programme made you think about all the faces from RTE we have seen throughout the years. It made me think that if TV3 were to put their own presenters together at the same time, they would barely fit an Austin Mini:p
Yes we all complain about RTE from time to time. Yet when we sit back and see what they have done for the past 40 years, well most of it aint' that bad!!!!!!!!
    What do you think:confused:

I only caught a little of it- the seventies stuff and it seemed Halls Pictorial Weekly was dealt with in about 30 seconds - a great pity for one of RTEs' few comedy sucesses.

    Yes it was enjoyable

pity they didnt talk about The Den the best comedy to come out of RTE, but then its only a childrens show, Still it deserves more respect.

The funnest show on the TV ever.

Ray D'Arcy, late of the Nutley Lane parish, was in the audience, but no Dempsey.

Now, Twink... (this'll be divisive!) I have a major dislike of her modern persona, she reminds me of Lyn Perrie (Ivy Brennan) in Corrie, in the way she has become a major arsehole as her career spirals ever downward, (re: dating show on TV3 recently) but last night, she did a turn, which was quite a witty number. In fact it was very good. Back to her Live Mike days....

Pat Kenny and Gay Byrne were excellent, even if the questioning from Brendan Courtney baffled auld Gaybo at times!! Poor choice of presenter.

And Derek Davis is still RTÉ's number 1 ad libber!!!

But it was good to see Ann O'Dwyer and (on Saturday's Gerry Ryan Hit List 2) Michael Dillon of Mart and Market featured!!

Tonight's nostalgia fest, 40 Years of Irish Sport was particularly good. I thought Phillip Greene was dead!!

I didnt get a chance to see the irish Sports tribute programme tonight. However I agree with the postings made earlier about "The Den'.
Ray Darcy was shown in almost all camera shots of the audience. Interesting too, to see a quick camera shot of Jim Sherwin, the Sports presenter. I did read in the papers recently that he is involved in a court case against RTE. So probally the reason for the quick camera shot of him.
I agree Damo with what you said about Twink. her singing last night was funny. However was it really neccessary for Joe Dolan and the HotHouse Flowers to be performing? I think the programme wasted valuable time which could have been used to feature programmes such as the Den and Halls Pictorial Weekly amongst others.
I complain about RTE all the time. However i am looking forward for them to come on Sky Digital, and looking at the amount of programmes they have shown, well they are not as bad as we think.........................

yeah was a good laugh, the look on gaybo's face when he was looking at the woman playing the bowrán(spl?) was classic :D

I thought it was completely pointless and a load of self-congratulatory bull****, so typical of RTE. Brendan Courtney as presenter was an utterly flawed choice, but that's the current fad of gay tv presenters, started by C4 and aped by RTE.
Most of the archive stuff was dull and served only as a guide to haircuts throughout the past four decades. If I had a TV license I'd demand a refund such was my disappointment with the programme.

I thought the show was quite entertaining and much better than the usual crap broadcast on the national holiday. Shame about the dreadful editing...
Twink has disgusted me since i was a child, but THAT was some performance...
Thought Pat Kenny came away from that double interview much betetr than the ever-arrogant Gaybo...
"The Den" realyl could have used more coverage...
And brendan courtney was an excellent choice... they needed a personality, but somebody w/o too tight a link to RTE (They were the guests you see...)
Although, Brendan will ahve to learn that only Gay can get away with flirting with the missus all night...
    Where was Thelma Mansfield?

Putting the celebratory champagne into the back of her car no doubt.

(oops, I'll regret saying that - still it's only libel if it's not true - and it might be true to form wrt the demo stuff on live at 3 over the years)
