Simpsons Mistakes/Descrepencies etc

You know the way Simpsons episdoes often contradict information from a previous epsiode?Or how somebodys age just dosent add up?Heres a few things I remembered in a fit of extreme boredom
Grampas age?Exactly how old is Grampa Simpson? He claimed to have drove the Irish out of Springfield back in something like 1904 .But he also managed to serve in World War 2,have get married and have kids in the 1960s and work as a grain silo security man for 40 years.Presuming that he was in his 20s in 1904 he must be 120 by these figures! And if he quit work after 40 years, presumably a job he took after the war-he retired at age 100!

Herb Powell-Who is his father?Though he is referred to as Homers HALF brother,Grandpa says that when his mother came back to town after a year she had”a little surprise for me”.For ME would seem to indicate he was the father. And Lisa says”His life was a success until he found out he was a Simpson”.So is Abe Simpson his father?

Mr Burns-How old is Burns? Most sources claim 101 ut in one episode he claimed to be something like 81.And if he was a young man when his son Larry was born the figure of 81 years old would seem to match up.

How Homer became bald-This is a tricky one. One ep implies it was an army experiment but another claims it was when he angrily tore his hair every time he heard about another child on the way.

How Homer heard about the pregnancies-In Barts case he heard at the doctors,in Lisas Marge told him and in Maggies he heard about it at Marges party. But in the ep where it shows him tearing his hair out he hears it from Marge in their sitting room of their present house. But they didn’t move to that house until after Lisa was born..

Moes Origins-Exactly where is Moe from? His Italian accent sometimes creeps up.But wouldn’t Moe be short for Moses,a Jewish name? And Syzlak dosent sound Italian. And in the Flaming Homer ep he mentions that his ancestors were bartenders to the Russian czars[though whether this is true is questionable]

Kruty-How old is Krusty? When he met his dad he said they hadn’t met in 45 years. But this would make Krusty at least 60 or so.But his dad looked fairly old when Krusty was young so god knows how old his father must be.And in one episode it claimed that Krusty started off the clown routine in Missippi as a street mime. But we hear that he was from Springfield and started at a Jewish conference as a clown.

How could Skinner been in Nam?Last night Supertindent Chalmers,in an episode from probably 1996 id guess, claimed Skinner was 44 years old. This would mean he was born in 1952,and would therefore not have been able to serve in Nam in 1968/69 as he has previously claimed.

Grampas birthplace-Where was it?If I remember rightly his dad seemed to have an accent that reverted from Welsh to Irish to Scottish within one sentence.

How come Homers college pals, who in the Poochie episode are diehard Itchy and Scratchy fans, don’t care to watch the historic epsidoe when Scratchy gets Itchy?

It’s a great show but I was bored and decided to highlight its mistakes.Anybody got anymore that just dont make 100% sense?

Who cares? Seriously, who goes through a program to point out its discrepencies? Just enjoy it for what it is: BRILLIANT!

You "thought" of all this while bored? Or did you look it up somewhere? Who really gives a bóllox, u one of those dudes who looks for mistakes, therefore not actually really enjoying the show....?

The creators of the simpsons have never tried to cover the fact that there is flaws in the simpsons, and who really cares, it adds to the joke that is the simpsons. just watch it for god sake, and dont be sitting there with a notepad. www.slipups.com has 1000's of simpsons slipups on it anyway

I think this was all very well covered in the episode with the Xena fan convention...
"Everytime you see something like that - a wizard did it."

You can't expect them to be 100% consistant with everyones backgrounds when the show is clocking well over 10 years of episodes.

How come you never see Ruth Powers anymore?
And how come you never see the big mansion that was once opposite the simpsons house? (where George Bush lived in said episode)
There are loads of discrepencies, I really can't be arsed thinking about them... because a wizard did it anyway :P

That's nothing, you should see South Park, I saw one episode where this kid in an orange coat, kenny I think his name was, got killed by some falling debris, and he was alive in the next week's episode! Someone really dropped the ball on that one.

This one just plain annoyed me. Same father, different mothers - half brothers. What exactly is the problem here?

The even use them as part of the gags. Like in the episode where they blew up Burns' Casino.
I wouldn't take the discrepancies too seriously, they add to the humour imho.

Seriously man, its just a really good cartoon. It doesn't matter if there are discrepencies in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭strat

theres about 3 different stories on how homer got the job in the power plant - one where they were recruiting in the high school
and one where many years later when marge was up the spout with bart homer walked into mr burn's office and demanded a job cause he was the best brown noser in the businesss :p

Actually the only thing certain is that Herb and Homer had the same mother.Grampa said about Homers mother
"She did things your mother wpould never do-like sex for money[when he says things your mother would never do he means the mother Homer knew if you get my drift].And when Homers mother pleads with Grampa not to tell Homer about the carnival incident that knocks the nail on the head.
Anyway what actually got me thinking were the 3 guys in the Poochie episode.Nowadays the Simpsons does occasionally deliberately ignore the past e.g when they bought Duncan the Horse and failed to recall how badly they minded the pony they once had.True its all part of the fun-its just something that comes into your head whern you realise something out of place.Sure its the best show ever but theres no harm in highlighting an odd omission.

    <C> L <O> O <U> S <G> E <H> R!!! :)

only kiddin, but really you should spend your time on something more constructive. But since i'm not you:

Most of the discrepencies lie with Homer.

How many of your average working class American Joe Soaps have:

    Been in Space
Had a successful Barbarshop Quartet Stint
Mad a movie with Mel Gibson
Been the butler of Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger AND Ron Howard.
Possessed an elephant, horse or helper monkey
Started a successful Day Care centre after being in an asylum, up for Murder 1 AND sexual harassment.
Had numerous collisions with the mafia.
    Become genious (temporarily)
    Entered the 3rd dimension
Been obducted by aliens on countless occasions
Had 100's of carreers including: Nuclear tech, monorail driver, grease seller, sanitation commissioner, film maker, musician etc etc etc
    Bootlegged booze during a drought
    Won a grammy
Met The Who, George Harrison, Elton John, Smashing Pumpkins, That musician guy with the cooler and flying pig, cypress Hill, U2, Daryl Strawberry, George Bush, Ex Pres Ford and many more
    Appeared In a Rock Festival
Danced naked in a church to the air of "WAR" (good god) "WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR"
Been chased by warewolves, zombies, aliens, ghosts and scotsmen
Had a movie made about him (portrait of an assgrabber)
    Become an artistic phenomenon
    Bought shares
    Voiced over in a cartoon
    Brought down a cult
Had his face appear on japanese detergent
Received a phonecall from magic Johnson
    Sneaked into a Superbowl?

    The list goes on.

<SMACK> go to bed Neil. Sleep shall cureth thou.

Er,I dont think so.Homers mother went on the run with some Hippies when Homer was about 5 or 6.If Herbs mother wasnt Homers mother, than why did Homers mother plead with Grampa not to tell about the son they abandoned?
Neil-When was Homer on trial for murder?I dont remember it!

    It's a Cartoon a

    C A R T O O N

    a CARTOON for god's sake.

The mistakes just add to the comedy and
the sureal landscape that is Springfield.

    Remember this?
In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a
xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he
produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to
believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something?
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

No, sorry, you're just wrong. Listen. Before Homer was born(or concieved), but when Abe and Homer's mother were together(possibly married), Abe met a carnie worker, who he solicited to have sex with him. The Carnival left town for a year, but when it came back, the carnie chick had a baby, which was Abe's. They put it in an orphanage. Somehow or other(it doesn't say), Homer's mother found out about this, and when Homer was born, asked Abe not to tell him.

I'm sorry to get all analy retentive on this, but it was really annoying me.

<edit> It's a bad quote, sorry, but you know what I'm talking about.

this reminds me of the episode where they get a horse for the second time and the comic store owner is complaining that the episode is unoriginal and gets pissed off cause noone will acknowledge that they had a horse b4 :)
