After seeing a few threads from Fianna Eireann and others about a united ireland and so on, would you want to live in a United Ireland or not? I wouldn't. I think Ireland is alright the way it is (besides the lack of broadband and stupid taxes like VRT and plastic bags :D)

Your question is not would it be easy to have a united ireland.
There are loads of problems, and bigotry etc.

In theory i would like a united ireland.

I think it's fairly self-evident that the question is "Given the current situation, would you like to see a United Ireland".

To which the response on my part is certainly "no bloody way", although I too would fall into the camp that says "yeah, in an ideal world."

I agree with Shinji on this one, a romantic view of a united Ireland does sound good to me but with the level of nut cases in the north it's hard to see how the reality could be worked out.

plenty of nut cases in the south, but no i dont fancy a united ireland, just yet.

I like the way it is currently. I absolutly hate northern ireland. It is full of hate. A United Ireladn would only make it worse.

As a former economics teacher i had once said:
Ireland(i.e. the Republic) is what we are interested in... The rest is Tony's problem
    :D

would agree that north and south should stay seperate until thos up there can get their house in order and learn to live with one another.

In an ideal world I would like to see united ireland but i have the funny feeling that its not going to happen in my lifetime

maybe 40 or 50 years from now unless something extraordinary happens

I think I have to agree that 80 years ago it would have worked but the north is so used to the way things are that it would take another hundred years to get them back to normal.
I do think ireland should have it's own criminal justice prgram, but can that happen as long as the brits have the north?
I cant stress how important I think our own policing system is and how bad we need it.
    what are we to do?

i disagree i think it would work. there will always be trouble in the north as long as it is under british rule there will always be a new group ready to take up arms etc. im not saying there would be no trouble if it was a united ireland but i think it would be less, and gradually lessen with time.

Cant see the people in the North voting to join our insolvent country any time soon.
