I've got a printed copy of my project design that I lost when my hd crashed. I'm far too lazy to type it all in so.....

I'm going to scan about 20 pages into a computer (which surprisingly I've never actually done b4 ) I'm guessing they're going to come out in GIF format or something. The trouble is I know nothing about character recognition to translate it to text so does anyone have experience with this? Is there one supplied in Word? If not what's a good (free) one? Do I have to make sure they're in a certain type of file?

Most scanners come with OCR software, and most OCR software will generate RTF/DOC files.
