    whats the FTP command that connects to a server ?

    open server

    then make sure you type 'binary' for data files, otherwise leave it on ascii for text files

    on what platform - on unix to ftp somewhere its plain old 'ftp <hostname>'

    As far as I know, it works in a dos box aswel

    Typing 'ftp <address>' gets you there straight away but if you're already in ftp then 'open <address>' connects you to a server.

    Same on DOS and *nix
