Is it legal for any provider of internet access to monitor it's traffic in ireland?

also are network storage folders allowed to be monitored?

to a certain extent. ISP's can certainly check what is sitting on their server for legality (is that a word? :))

monitoring newsgroups/email they shouldn't do. I recall someone from IOL explaining it to me that if they were to monitor what was posted then they would loose some kind of protection under the law that would make them liable for whatever was posted in the newsgroup/email.
