ive listed my personal top five, based on performance, and ability to find what i want. if you disagree thats fine, this is more for new people who will want to get started.


XoloX

XoloX is a compact (634KB), spyware-free p2p client designed for downloading and sharing files on gnutella. XoloX is the first gnutella client that has the ability to download a file from multiple sources similar to KaZaa. This makes it very easy to download hard to find songs or large movies.
Installing XoloX was as a snap, no complicated forms or strange network settings to adjust, just click-click and go! We had XoloX up and running in minutes. Connecting to the gnutella network was a breeze, the automatic connection feature made it simple to connect in seconds without hassle.
XoloX best feature is the ability to download broken and unfinished downloads from multiple hosts. This is the only gnutella client to offer multiple downloading, you won't find Bearshare with this feature. After using XoloX for sometime you will notice that your previously incomplete downloads will reappear in the transfer window, XoloX then searches and researches the gnutella network for identical files for downloading

Blubster


Blubster is a peer to peer network with a new private protocol that works without a central server. Once your client program connects with another client you're free to search and download Mp3 music files from the entire network of users.
Blubster features an easy to use interface enabling fast searches, fast & resumable downloads and cache files at several sources, chat & voice chat and much more!
Search for an MP3 song and Blubster will get all details of each search result, including quality, length, fingerprint... You can then choose which file to download. If you try to download a file you already own you can choose to resume, overwrite, rename or even cancel the download.

WinMX

WinMX is one of the most powerful OpenNap searching tools on the site today. With the new version comes increased stability, enhanced interface and an array of useful features. One of the most important features is the ability to connect to multiple servers while remaining stable. Some of the things we liked best about WinMX was the easy setup and also comes stock with a OpanNap server generator. (Meaning: You don't have to type in server addresses, just hit connect and wait.)
Here's a tip: When you start WinMx for the first time, make sure you synchronize your server list when the pop-up screen appears. Once your server list appears, click "connect" on all the servers. If servers don't connect in the first 2 minutes, if needed try connecting every several minutes the server could just be full.

eDonkey2000

eDonkey2000 doesn't rely on one central server yet searches are quick and your client doesn't get bogged down with endless search requests. You have the ability to search all the files being shared anywhere on the eDonkey2000 network.
It allows you to transfer any type of file. It automatically resumes interrupted transfers from alternate sources. It even introduces ways to share a whole collection of files together so you can be sure to get all the songs in an album or all pieces of a movie. Users will be able to download a file from multiple sources at the same time thus insuring that transfers will be as fast as possible.
Files can be uploaded while being downloaded. This insures that a rare file that is wanted by many people will be distributed as quickly as possible.
The server and client are both distributed for free. There are Linux and Windows versions available with Mac versions coming soon.

Grokster is by a long shot my favourite. Fasttrack is the biggest p2p network out there.
