I have just been to the Gala Premiere of We Where Soldiers once....and young.
It's not an amazing fiulm but if you like a story which can grab you by the scruff of the neck and almost make you cry(even if your a lad) this is a good watch, amazingly graphic and realistic, It tracks the fate of Col Moore on in the first majoir confilct between american and vietcong troops in march 1964. Amazingly the film opened in Athlone, for once some where outside Dublin!!
Any way me and Preacher aquired free tickets from my Father, he got them through an old Army officer friend.
If you are bored and want a decaint film which will hold your attention 'till the end, this is most likely the best film you will find around at the moment unless you want to see LOTR again(which I couldnt fault!)
Well worth 2 hours of my life!

Unlike most american vietnam films where they win every battle but still lose the war, this story is based on a book of stories from soldiers that took part in the real life battle.

I saw a review which likened this flick to The Green Berets,
John Waynes famously right wing turkey as if Gibsons' own politics are involved this'll be similair in tone. Itwas written and directed by the guy who wrote Pearl Harbour which should be a warning for everyone this weekend.

    Mike.

Went to see it last night. Not fantastic, but very watchable.

Hell of alot better than that over-rated, boring, noisy mess Black Hawk Down.

Resurrecting this post now. The guy who wrote pearl harbour also wrote braveheart. His pearl harbour script was rewritten by about a half dozen others so its not all his fault.

The film was one of the best war movies I've seen, especially since its a true story. Its not afraid to show the horrors of war and how the good guys do get killed.

I liked the fact that it didn't make the Vietnamese to be evil but soldiers like the americans.
