TV or Projector

    Hi,

I've just finished setting up a full home cinema/hifi sound system, and am really happy with what I have. The only think I am missin though is a nice tv. I have a 28" regular widescreen, which is fine but a bit small. It doesn't really match the quality of the sound (if you know what I mean)

Anyway, I've decided to look into upgrading the TV. Just want to know the pros and con of a projector over a regular TV. I'd love plasma but.....price:(

Sony seem to have some nice home cinema projectors for aroung £1700 sterling from the UK which will go easily upto 50"-60". This equates pricewise to a nice 32"-36" flat 100hz tv

    Which one would you take?

Don't tempt me. I was wandering arond brown thomas yesterday just looking at the plasma, now the 60" LG plasma was a sweet machine. Made those 42"ers look very very small

:0 Saw it too (droooool :)

A crowd called galaxy were offering Fujitsu Siemens 42" plasma screen at 6780.00 euros inc vat & delivery, which was the best price I had seen for them, although 60 inches takes some beating :):)

    also has some prices :)

Id go with the projector. Decent units have a much greater contrast ratio than equivalently prices Plasmas, and usually higher resolutions too (handy for HDTV eventually or playing UBER TFC).
When I finally have a place that can hold one Im going to get this (if I can....) http://www.ivojo.co.uk/plus-u3-1100z.htm

Thats a nice spec. Only problem seems to be the 4:3 aspect ratio. I think that I need a 16:9 projecter to get the best from DVD, which is my primary use.

The other thing that might bother me is the fact that you need a dark room during that day.

Plasma technology is moving very quickly so I'd be tempted to wait a little longer before considering them

hmm we've a digital projector at home... cost around the 5 grand mark about 4 years ago, i've hooked it up to my dvd player quite a few times, more out of curiousity than anything else, but you really need quite a dark room, and even then some cheaper projectors won't show black as black (more a murky grey..), you also need to invest in a decent screen, your talking at least another 500 on top of the projectors cost.. more if its 16:9 id presume as thatd be more the upmarket screens... than theres the whole permanence issue, you cant move a projector as easily (if such a word can be used) as a tv.. it needs to be affixed properly and wiring can be a pain in the ass as well.

but that said if your happy with those constraints then definitly get one, you'll be the envy of everyone :)
