Well IMO it's not going to be a meteor or aliens or anything like that. I think we'll more than likely balls it up ourselves. (And I mean humanity as a whole, not just us posting on this board!)

Actually we're in danger of being hit in september 2004. It'll be very close and it may get caught in the earths gravity. We've had near misses tons of times but to avoidmass hysteria they never told us when we'd be hit.

This one always gets me. There was an "expert" in one of the British newspapers recently wittering on about how we're going to die out through a lack of will to reproduce - he pointed at the fact that both Europe and Japan are due to lose big chunks of their population in the next 50 years.

Of course, they rather forget that in less developed nations, the birthrate is still huge and depression isn't a major mental illness problem. I'm sure some people living in the Roman Empire towards the end of its reign felt that the world was coming to an end. Those of us living in advanced societies thousands of years later might beg to differ; and those living in advanced societies thousands of years from now will probably consider our own fatalism just as stupid
