Mayhem - did you get your satellite connection off one of those crazy expensive irish companies like educom or the likes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭mayhem#

Depends what you call crazy expensive...
Yes I get mine from Educom. They are the only ones who do supply satellite in Ireland at the moment. Basically it's costing me €250 a month. Still only half of what I was paying Eircom for a crappy ISDN...

Half what you were payimg for an ISDN?? Eircom ISDN is only €35 a month!! You must have had some serious phone charges. :)

For €35p/m you can get 2mb DSL in (mainland) Europe.

I think he did, seeing as he seems to think €35p/m is good value for ISDN ("Eircom ISDN is only €35 a month!!")

Don't you hate it when people post about their internet connection without giving proper information.

Educom, one of Ireland's satellite broadband access providers, have a product called "Eirstream" which you can check out here:

    http://www.eirstream.net/

There seems to be four packages, the cheapest one is the 400k down/128k up and has a cap of 3 gigs and costs E150 a month.

The most expensive is the 1024k down/128k up and has a cap of 10 gigs and costs E375 a month. All caps are per month.

The webpage seems to say that you need a "Radio Appliance Licence" which costs E125 per year in Ireland.
