    Lo all,

Thinking of going for an eye test soon, and don't wanna be rushed through the process becuase some half drunken, can't wait for lunch, optician is in a hurry.

I wanna hear about your experiences with opticians, the good and the bad, so that when I decide to go for a test, I can make a call based on what you good people say here!

Bring on your optician nightmare and wet dream experiences!

Went to Vision Express (I think it was...) in Lwr Liffey Street.
They were pretty good. Eye test went well, they were very helpful.

Specsavers were decent. Weren't as good though (but it could have been the day I went).

Specsavers - never had a good experience.

Cross the county boundary and go to General Optics in Castle Street in Bray. Not dead cheap, but very very good.

Got mine done my McNallys on the Green (the McNallys operate a chain and independant shops, so be careful). While they are technically proficient, there was an element of the smarmy sales man about it. I got good frames (£130) with anti-glare lenses (£99) about 15 months ago. I get a recurrring problem with the silicone nose pad getting stained green by the copper in the frames.

Specs-Xpress (Stephens Green) are ok, the staff are usualy all smiles and sunshine... I don't care much for the optician guy I dealt with the other day though, quite pushy and matter-of-fact... the female opticians there are far more patient and mannerly.
I suppose it's pretty hit and miss... who you get on the day, etc.

Yea, I'm trying to avoid the pushy, rushed ones...

    ...interesting replies so far...

...Anyone know any private practice opticians?

    keep 'em coming...

    Dr. Lavery.
I dont have the number at hand atm but I could find it if you wish.
Hes very good and I've been with him since I was all ikkle. Funny guy. He seems to know his stuff quite well and is very good at explaining all the things that they can do to your eyes.

Its a family practice and his dad was an extremly well known one before him.

Hes private though, and Im under the impression hes a bit expensive. Claimable on VHI though.

The VHI only allow about £15 every second year for testing. And you have to spend £250 on qualifying services first because of the 'excess' clause.

    Sorry for the misinformation.
I know I can claim it back, or my parents.
    Dont know why though

You may be able to claim a certain amount against tax (probably only if you are self employed).
