    Hi,

as someone new to the medium of DVD I was looking
for a few recommendations on titles to rent.
To give an idea of my/our tastes the titles I
    have recently enjoyed were:

Bridget Jones Diary, Oh Brother where art Thou,
    Me myself and Irene.

Basically I dislike tough action or gratuitously
violent films (call me old fashioned :))! )
I was thinking about getting Quills and
Meet the Parents next.. maybe Shrek. All
different types of films but all good clean
fun nonetheless. I rarely get to the cinema
so DVD is how I catch up. Any advice.
Sorry for such a trite request but maybe someone
out there might spark a few ideas of what
might be out there of interest for me to rent
    out.

Here are some good ones to check out:
City of Angels : (It's a weepie one)
Shrek: Funny, watch the extras too! - games if you have DVD rom
A Knights Tale: Good flick, not too Violent and its funny in parts
    Heartbreakers: Funny, Romantic comedy
Dogma: Funny, Very Funny (seen only on Vid, but DVD available)

Hope that helps. There just a few, have seen a good lot but a bit hard to remember them at the mo.
Check out http://www.xtravision.ie/ for their top 20, but some of the oldie movies are on DVD now with a few extras.

I bought the DVD weeks ago and I've hardly had it yet, lent it to a friend who liked it so now everyone wants to borrow it, probably my favourite film of last year.

I'm impressed with these bulletin boards.

One last one - where is the cheapest/best place to
buy DVD titles (including US regions) on the net?

Try www.play.com (formally play247.com), they're based in the UK afaik but they still have good prices for Region 1 titles as well as region 2, and delivery is free, which is always nice. Reliable and fast service too.

You liked Bridget Jones Diary? you have to be a girl, the only person i have ever seen laugh at anything in that film is my Girlfriend, It really REALLY is terrible, But on the light side of things, i recommend TigerLand for all to see, maybe something old like Raging Bull, if Drama kind of stuff is your thing, Comedy wise it has to be Freddy Got Fingered be prepared to Laugh and Puke, But probably puke more cause its DAMN sick!

Mine too. Same thing happened here. Lent it to some folks, haven't seen it since :)

Excellent film. Should win some kind of award for best story/screenplay.

Normally I would recommend Fight Club, but from your post it seems you only like nicey-nice films, so how about Hearbreakers? Light, entertaining. The Mexican is alright too.

Rasta: Requiem for a dream? :p
    A good old fashioned movie?
    Haha... I hope you're taking the p**s...

    Fantastic movie.. Deeply disturbing..

Probably not for someone who prefers Bridget Jones Diary, Shrek, Quills and meet the parents..

    You're just downright mean!

Disco Pigs, Rented it on Friday thoroughly enjoyed it. Always nice to see a decent Irish film.... if you can stand all the Cork accents that is :-)

aye bought it myself first week it came out on R2.. have watched it about 6 or 7 times since then, still picking out small details everytime i watch it (lots of little slowmo/pause bits like fight club to be found..i wont spoil them :) ) add the easter egg which allows you to watch it in chronological order (which ive watched twice) and god damn its great viewing.. although the right order version sort of takes the thinking out of the film.

    anyway back on topic..

Knights Tale is out now,no brainer period comedy which is quite enjoyable.. deleted scenes are decent enough as well.

Moulin Rouge is out to buy in the last 12 minutes (04/03)... i'd warrant its a damn good dvd full of extras.

Blow... only if you liked goodfellas.

Final Fantasy.. not a great film, but a great DVD it has to be said.. and you'll still go ooooh at the graphics :)

avoid at all costs: Down to Earth, Heartbreakers and The Parole Officer.

Ah......tell me how? :) I saw the sticker on the case saying there was a hidden feature, I thought it might be a chronological order thing, but I forgot all about finding out how to get it, I was considering watching through it with the skip scenes button to get it in the right order, this will be a lot handier :).

    go to the extra features..
wait till all the polaroids have spun around.. leonard will be lying there with a polaroid in his mouth.. press enter/ok anytime there to access it..
btw memento mori is a pretty good read as well..

Have bought a lot of Region one Dvd's lately.
Many releases well ahead of Xtravision's region two offerings.
places to try with no added postage are
    www.ringos.co.uk
    www.movietyme.com
Those two can be a bit cheaper than www.play.com and their delivery is faster from my experience.
Movietyme are in cahoots with Australia's EzyDvd which would have a lot of bargain region four stuff-but theres postage-not if you go through movietyme though.
