When I'm online and I try to rip a cd to wav, the modem just instantly stops transmitting and receiving data. Any ideas?

    Have you checked IRQ sharing.

Most likely those two devices are sharing same interrupt number.

    How would I do that?

On my Slackware Box I use KDE.

If you open up KDE control center, and (I think) in Device Manager you should be able to find the IRQ number assignments for each of the devices on the system.

See if your CD-ROM has the same IRQ as your Modem.

How2 change IRQ numbers --> No Idea :)
