Well i think hes svery lucky to get away with only a three week ban and yet he is still going to appeal.

In my opinion the banning system in rugby is ridiculous
take stringer for instance when he got punched by that italian guy
he got like 3 months r something and he didnt draw blood
johnson caused the saracens guys face to start bleeding.
this is stupid just cause hes the english captain he gets taken easy on.
he misses three games two league and the international against france, In football a simple red card makes you miss three games this situation needs to be sorted out.

    what does everyone else think??

    Yeh the inconsistancy was ridiculous.

Heres Lee Bowyer, never convicted of as thing, and he was not allowed to play for England for a year! while the trial went on, then he still cant play even cleared of all charges.
Cause the soccer chiefs dont want to portray a bad image.

Then Martin Johnson does this, says in a statement its part and parcel of the game of rugby!!!, then gets to play for his country while awaiting his hearing??

It shows a great example for the english youth, punching is acceptable, but try not to get caught!

I think because of his position in the game, he should have got the same treatment as the Claw! 6 mth ban from domestic and internaltional rugby!

He should have been sent off straight away and only was cuz there was the match againist Ireland. He should be banned for a long time. The other guy was doing absolutly nothing and johnson just started swinging his elbows and then finally punched the guy. He should be banned for the rest of the season!!!

    From Skysports
French coach Bernard Laporte has responded to England's decision to pick Martin Johnson by selecting yellow card offenders Olivier Brouzet and Remy Martin for Saturday's Six Nations showdown in Paris.

Well I hope england are happy, as they have managed to lower the standards of behaviour expected from players in the 6 nations to gutter standards.

    Congratulations to all involved.

While I agree with your outrage at the decision, the RFU (bunch of limp wristed fools) aren't being inconsistent with the decision. Their record is poor on these issues on the other hand if the incident occurred in a 6 nations match he would have been dealt with severely, as has happen to other well known players ( Magne being one that springs to mind ). Or is it the case that the other home unions don't take the issue of player safety seriously. Hefty bans are handed out to those you have caused serious harm, by the IRFU. I'm only pointing out that the RFU are ruling over a English competition that other unions or the IRB hold no sway. Leading on from that, God help him if he get into trouble this weekend because the book has been dusted off and prepared for launch.
