20 quid for downloading 1 Gig extra, robbin' b@stards, works out at around the same as it would cost you to d/l same on ISDN....
at 25 megs an hour it takes 40 hours for a Gig and at 50p an hour thats 20 quid. Ok theres advantages of speed and not paying for idle time but I'd rather stick to my ISDN.

It's possible their just covering their a$$e$ starting off with this service and that the price might drop after a while but until then it's no use to anyone, flat rate ISDN would beat this service hands down for most of us.

I could easliy d/l 4-5 GB of eh, stuff in a month on my IOL No Limits 56k line.
And similarly, doesn't that really defy the entire reason for having High Speed Connections ? And this 2p a MB extra is a farce. And minimum contract is pants, you'll have paid all your money before you realise it's all too late or that in 6 months time, another cheaper, more consumer friendly connection package will be unvield by Eiron or some such.
A forty eight pounds software package ? Give me a break, that's just plain arrogance.
So anyone have anymore info on that IOL ISDN flatrate conn. ? wink.gif

All thats been said about ISDN + Nolimits is "Sometime in 2001".

My website, to be launched in a few weeks, will have all this and more.

Personally I'm reasonably happy with my SNL diap-up service, or rather I would be if eshat weren't such butt-monkeys. My ping to IGN is in LPB range (thought not slpb) and to UK and continental servers is usualy 250-300. With a download manager I can leave it on all night, download several times what I do download and not worry about the cost.

I would like VDSL or something to improve my pings to foreign servers but overall I could do without.

Of course SNL is priced way too high and they don't even provide a good service for the money. We should get a reliable always-on dial-up connection for that money. You wouldn't think it would be too hard a service to provide, but that's Irish telecoms for ya. Bunch a' muppets.

that chorus thing is fairly standard for cable in other euro countries. for example in portugal its roughly the same price as that and also has a download limit, a bit higher, something like 7gbs and they also have the charge on traffic exceeded.
I was suprised when ntl didnt mention traffic.
Still, even with it , id be interested in it. Anyone know if/when they will be servicing dublin? or have ntl ****ed that up for everyone

I would be happy with flat rate isdn but alas thats gonna be some way off.Ive been holding out for something like no-limits[esat] isdn for over a year now but ive finaly conceded the afore mentioned butt moneys that be have ordained isdn user are to be screwed to the bitter end so ive gone back to 56k for the forseeble future.

Dustaz - Chorus cant operate in dublin, NTL have some sort of exclusive contract for that part of the country, like Chorus do in cork / limerick etc. :/

Tobiwan - Its available in some parts of limerick, including mine, at the moment

What i want to know, is if they are planning to ditch the download limit. I hear the pings are very good, 20-30 on irish servers, add 10 for uk ones . . .

will the same apply to the cable version of powernet as to the wireless version mentioned above? ie, prices and limits etc...

they are supposedly doing cable in kilkenny v. soon, tho that was said to me by the previous cable operators prolly 18 months ago..... sooooon indeed....

also, chorus' replying to email skillz is only surpassed by their 'hold please while i transfer you to mary... she got training on the powernet yoke' ability....

is there any chance the download limit will be raised in the next few months? if not, then i'll stick with my isdn/modem-esat-nolimits combination

In the past few weeks they have been digging up the streets of Clonmel including my front garden, so with any luck I might see cable soon. Here’s hoping!?!
