    Douglas in cork

Nope. Only folk with fancy pieces of ironmongery, as far south as Mullingar or Portlaoise could stand a chance of getting UTV on the aerial.....

Divis is a high power transmitter, but not that high power to reach Cork, and even at that, there is the slight problem of Tipperary in your way!!

Probably got more of a chance of getting a signal for HTV, but I'll leave that to our southern correspondents.....

    Hi there.
Reliable reception of HTV in Douglas would be difficult.
You would get it , but would need to be spending upwards of €600 on the ironmongery, quad aerials amps etc.
Not to mention probably hundreds more insuring the thing as it would be quite high.
An enthusiast like myself would probably put one up if I lived there.

The easiest way to get all the ITV channels and CH 4 etc would be to get a Digibox and BBC Card from E-bay.
You may have to bid up to £300 stg for it but at least then you are guaranteed reception.
Just swap it with your own digibox or get an installer to wire it in , for you as a second box, with the proper lnb.

And now a word from our Southern correspondant...

You can pick up HTV Wales and Channel 4 (plus BBC1 and BBC2)in some parts of Douglas. If you let me know specifically where you are I'll let you know.

The reception is not perfect by any means but it is watchable. Only in very bad weather does it get unwatchable.

You will need a UHF aerial (known as a Colour-King), a signal amplifier (20dB) and a power supply. You can get all this at Dwyer's electrical in Togher for about £50. You may also need a pole to mount the aerial on but if you already have an RTE aerial on a pole you can use that one.

Once you have all the ingredients you will have to determine which direction to point the aerial in. Connect up the aerial throught the amplifier and power supply in your TV room. You need to be able to tune your TV (or video) into specific frequencies which are
    Channel 4 40
    BBC2 42
    HTV 45
    BBC1 48

Once you have the channels tuned in, hold up the aerial and rotate it slowly while checking the TV. You should get some sort of signal. Note the direction the aerial is pointing. You may have to do this from outside (less interference from walls). If all this works, then putting the aerial up on the chimney should improve the picture another bit.

    Lost yet ? :)

I presume this is Presely from Wales we are talking about??
If it's SCCTV or other deflector-ignore what I'm saying.
The channels for presely are 46,40,43 and 50.
For BBC 1 and two,HTV and S4C in that order.

The best one to try first, is channel five and thats on UHF ch 37.
Because of wher it is located on the B group it is strongest.
Make sure the elements in your aerial are horizontally polarised.

dmeehan, you will need a group B aerial and amp.
A quad is four aerials (in this case group B) mounted together.
But I'd love to know how you get on with just the one!
post back and let us know.
I still think though for crystal reception, you are better going down the extra digibox route.
You could be lucky and get it Cheap-depends on the auction.

The details I posted above are for South Coast TV's Carrigaline relay. They have an unusual setup at the moment in so much as they are showing BBC1NI, BBC2 (England), HTV Wales and Channel 4 (not sure which region for the adds). There is no way to pick up channel 5 on an aerial here.

If you can pick up the South Coast signal you will only need the one aerial.

As mm has said though you are probably better off going down the new box with FTV card road as it is not certain that the deflector groups will stay operating.

Aaaaah Ranelagh, or Renelagh as the locals call it...such memories!
The trip on the 11 down to Belfield....

I'd imagine both are possible there-but you are at sealevel so some ironmongery is required.
If you have a sea view from the rooftop and Howth is not in the way,you can get out your welsh phrase book;)
Theres that Kilkeel relay! if you want UTV :)
have a look at this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35279

Maybe marconi if he's around can suggest something-or possibly Tony?
I'm usually a good judge-but I'd have to get up on your chimney and have a look around and Emmm I'm a bit busy at the mo:D
    Hope this helps
