jabs and visas

    newbie to longhaul travel asks:

    how long before i depart on a long haul trip to the "eastern" hemisphere should i get my jabs??
    what are the required jabs that i have to get (i know the doc will tell me all...me just interested! or is it country specific??)

    and another question......whats the story with getting Work/holiday visas??? anyone done this before???

    One important one to get if you're going to be in inland areas are the Jap. B. shots. It's not common but it fatal in 40% of cases. Larium (spl?) will protect you from malaria everywhere except Vietnam. You'll need Dexotoxrin (again spl?) there.

    http://tmb.exodus.ie/ will provide you with everything you need. As for Visas I don't know.

    if you can go in to one of the tropical disease's clinics. they have all the info about what you need for where. i would reckomend getting everything they tell you to get.

    Some GPs run travel vacination clinics or else try :

    Ask the relevant embassy about visas, they will usually produce an information leaflet and can send it to you.
