    As per topic.
I suspect it can't be done but being ever the optimist I thought I'd ask anyway.

    I have Win98 and IE5.

You could disable javascript, but as well as breaking popups, it would break an awful lot of other stuff.

Alternately, go try out Opera, which has a setting to allow you to choose whether you accept/refuse or get prompted for popups.

Opera, while not perfect, has become my browser of choice. I resort to IE 5.5 or 6.0 only when I come across something which Opera acts weird with.

Also....added bonus.....Opera has built in mail client so no more OUtlook. It can also interface to AIM/ICQ/MSNIM etc. etc. etc. apparently, so you can have all your connectivity in one neat app, (except for IRC).

Others, I'm sure, will diagree with my options, but for me, Opera is the way of the future :)

Konqueror allows you to stop pop-ups on a site by site basis, but don't know if they have a windoze port.

You could try http://www.adsubtract.com/ as an alternative. The Pro edition I can say is worth the money.

    Thier Standard edition is free.

there are several if you look around zdnet so im not going to post any,
be warned though, they wont actually stop pop ups form happening, merely close them upon detection, so its not going to be the same as visiting a site without pop ups

Actually Ad-Subtract acts like a proxy server and strips all the offending code from the page, so no adverts appear at all as the code to pop it up is removed before the browser sees it. They also keep a database of advert companies.

well theres that way, but then you have all the problems associated with using a proxy
