A candle light dinner is always good followed by a video. Try that. Now that I care I don't take part in this god forsakne day.

Night #2: Make a hamper of food and wine and bring a lantern and loads of condoms and take him/her out to a mountain or a park or a big field, eat drink and bee merry!

would be nice in the summer, or if we lived in Austrailia......

    Might stay in doors,

Dinner and then a rosemantic movie, how about that !! I think that might work....

Well all a mate of mine does is buy his wife a scratch card , (happens at christmas too), sometimes if he thinks they might win he would scratch the card first and then give it too the wife!

That would make a cheap gift - probably give you matching black eyes though ;)

Yes they do, it is a necessity, unless of course you want to spend the next month in "a world of pain" Big Lebowski Quote

Arrange for your friends to get a van and don balaclavas, then be walking down a quiet street with your special girl and have your friends "abduct" her. Then, you like, pretend to kick their asses and rescue her and she will like you alot after that.

Side effect would be you might have to pay for psychologists to heal the mental trauma.

Another idea would be to take her out to a chinese restraunt and ask for proper chinese food like Chickens Feet. Wait till she has eaten them and then tell her what each thing is with glee. Why not capture the look on her face in a Kodak moment, the memories will last a lifetime.

    Hope that helps,

Too cold to be outside just take the hamper to the bedroom :D

Honestly though, cooking dinner is good cheap idea, throw in a good few candles and nice music and bobs your uncle!

Just go out to a pub/club on vals, with some friends (minus g/f) be single for the night, meet a new girl, you dont have to buy her anything or cook a meal or rent a movie, but if you are any good you will get a shag at the end of it and she will think you are the biz and wont be judging/rating you with her workmates the next day...
    Sorted.

Get a cynical girlfriend. Emphasise the 'Hallmark' ugliness of Valentines day, and the pointlessness of making romantic gestures because you are expected to make them. Tell her you believe romance should not come about as a product of social pressure but because you care for someone deeply and honestly. And make sure that she understands that the rest of the year will be her Valentines. Then sit back, switch on the telly, and laugh at the thought of all those poor sods out there getting processed through restaurants as fast as the little waiters can get you through them and getting charged a fortune for the privelige.

I don't get the Idea of the whole candle lit dinner and a video. Don't people do that any way if they are going out with some one? I just think that it is pretty normal. I however, don't have any ideas of what you can do.

    ahh nope!
No offence lads, but in the eyes of an irish lad, from what I've seen anyway, a night with the girlfriend consists of a night in the pub, or even possibly a trip to the cinema but that's about it.
but a lot of that has to do with the lack of things to do too.
I mean imagine if there was no cinema or pubs in Ireland. What would we spend our weekends doing?

    Rodding??
But seriously, what do couples do in other countries that's so different? Bowling? You could do that here, cinema, drinks, restaurant, walks, bed, TV, video, concerts, driving, talking, rodding, playing games, have a bath....it's all the same I reckon. :)
