Winter Olympics

So, is anyone in Ireland actually following any of the Winter Olympics?

Some big upsets over the weekend. Switzerland's Simon Amann came outta nowhere to win the K120 ski-jumping, beating Sven Hannevald and Adam Malysz into Silver & Bronze places respectively.

Given that Amann scored his first-ever podium earlier this year, and that Hannevald became the first-ever to clean-sweep the 4-hills tourney in Dec/Jan, and Malysz's tour-leading form, this was an incredible victory.

Almost as impressive was Stroebl and Kjus putting Eberharder into bronze position in the mens downhill. In the absence of the Herminator, Eberh. was the hot fave for gold.

Well as we have no Eurosport, (thank you NTL, customer orientated as usual) so we're not getting very comprehensive coverage of it.

But at least we had crap US golf on CNBC.

    I though Amann won the K90? K120 qualifying was yesterday(Feb 12th) AFAIK.

The K90 competition was pretty cool though - I caught an interview NBC did with Amann just after he won, and he was so excited he couldn't really speak. Just screamed and jumped around.

One of the big stories over the last few days has been the judging in the figure skating pairs competition. A Canadian pair (Sale/Pelletier) lost out controversially to a couple of Russians. Most of the commentators seemed to think the Canadians were robbed...
