Hope not but they could and if Shearer goes (I think he will) they just might.... NOT

Truthfully England have some of the best players in the world, but they just don't gel. They struggled to qualify from a weak group.
I mean 2 - 2 at home against Greece in the most important game in the group, doesn't say much for their performance under pressure. I say that they'll be lucky to get out of the group stage.
I say Argentina and Sweeden will progress.

Lichtenstein? How about we talk about the current irish squad!
You know, the one that beat Holland 1 nil.

I don't think that Ireland are better than England, but I also don't think that England would have been able to qualify from a group containning Portugal and Holland.

England chances of winning the World Cup are totaly over-rated.

He's a great manager but please god they don't win then we won't have to listen about it for the next 100 years.

No they'll not get past the semis

    hahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahaha

    NO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Nope they won't win it. They will go down in flames (ie a peno shoot out) in the Qtrs or Semis.

    Argentina will win it.

    Gandalf.

Yes they will be dealt another injustice, a dodgy ref will send off Becks (the most talented player in the world) for kicking someone in the face (he was going for the ball). How dare anyone other than the inventors of football win the world cup.

England will absolutely definitely certainly NOT win the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

    Full stop.

They have a chance. It's very small, but it is there :) Unless Argentina (who my money's on) or France somehow get knocked out before meeting England, then it's basically nil.

But what sort of World Cup would it be without the good laugh when England get knocked out, along with the tabloids going totally insane :)

Lads lads its a knock out tournament...Freaky things can and do happen.
if england do manage to qualify out of their group then of course they have a chance.

Yes they can win but they wont as they are not a team .They are a group of great players .

I think if England come second in their group they get France. Assuming France win their group. England could very well finsh last in their group. Nigeria beat Spain in France '98 they can beat England too. That was a deadly goal by Sunday Oliseh. Anyway England are not good enough to win it. Argentina will probably win.
On another point I think if Ireland come second they will end up playing Spain and if they beat Spain they end up with Portugal, again assuming that Spain and Portugal win their respective groups. Things are not looking too good for us.

Forget Spain & Portugal its bloody Cameroon I'm worried about. They looked very impressive in the little I saw of the Africans Nations Cup.

    Gandalf.

aye cameroon...they won the nations cup there last night...beating senegal on penos!....
a seeminly easy group appears to be getting harder and harder.

I watched most of the African Nations Cup Games. Cameroon are not that great, their defence is dodgy and their control is not so great. If Mick McCarthy doesn't underestimate them we should not have trouble

i was only giving you an example of how teams have bad days.

how can you say englan are better than ireland and then turn around and say they wouldnt have quailified out of our group. but hypocritical.
i also think ireland were incredibly lucky to beat holland 1-0.
in fact, their manager seemed to be playing for ireland that day....
england do have a chance to win, the same as any other team

I would like to see them do it. The have one of the most talented squads in the world and if theyw in that maybe they will leave us to win the rugby world cup. A throphy that we could win (if we pull off six of our best perfromances in a row).

Someone pointed out they have trouble gelling and I think that is very true.

If I was making a bet I'd say they will make semi's.

At the end of the day who am I to say who will win?

I've got to go with France

    Barthez

    Sagnol Thuram Desailly Candela

    Dalmat Viera Zidane Pires

    Trezeguet Henry

    I mean Come on like!

As for England they still lack something in defence and midfield (left side mainly) up front they can compete with anyone I reckon.

Hardly hypoctritical, the funny thing about football is that the better team doesn't always win. As for ireland being lucky to beat Holland, the fact is that they did and remember that Holland were very lucky not to lose to Ireland in Holland.

I think that England would be a better team if they had a more influential captain. Beckham is a skilful player, but he is not a leader.

I would gladly put a bet on Ireland getting further than England.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

    id happily take that bet.
ireland are a group of hard grafting players.
we have 3 or 4 world class players.
england have a squad of them.

oh, and saying that england are better but that they would lose to holland while ireland would beat them is, quiet frankly hypocritical. and dont say it isnt please, because it just bloody is.

How about you take your head out of your ass and take heed of what I say. Englands biggest problem is that they have to many "World class players". And like I pointed out, the best team doesn't always win. Ireland are'nt a better team than Holland, but remind me again who is in the World Cup? On paper Liverpool are better than Bolton, but Bolton still beat them this year.

well i say bring on the penalty shoot out and england shall be crushed.
i wonder who will miss this time.

    get a life wwm..

we dont have 3 or 4 world class players...

We have 1 world calss player, Keano..

If Robbie Keane was a world calss player he would not be a sub at leeds, and nor would leeds have had to buy another striker in Robbie Fowler..

er, Shea Given is not a World Class player, he has never won **** all nor done anything bar a few good saves in the English league..

I cant think of anyone else at all who could even be thought of as world class..

I think England could do quite well in the World Cup and would like to see them do so as I know their players. However, although I think in an attacking sense England are very good, I also think they are weak defenseively. As a united fan I have to say that a defence featuring one of the Neville sisters does not inspire confidence, if Ashley Cole getrs injured then there is a good chance both will play and that is not good news for the English at all. All the same I hope they do not win it as their press will then be unbearable for about twenty years. I have not seen enough of Argentina to know how good they are but I know they have some great players. The England game should show us just how good they are. As regards Ireland, although we may not have all the talent other coutries have, as a unit we are very good, and hard to break down. I think we could get to the quarters and after that who knows what can happen. Obviously I would not back us to win it, but I will study the odds closely for a semi final berth.
