I was told 6 weeks when I ordered it.
2 weeks by the engineer who called the next day.
"Tomorrow mornin' at 10Am" by the same engineer the day after that.
4 days and it was sitting on my wall - now I told them it was urgent as I was going away so that probably helped.

Chubby, for online games it makes a very nice difference to 56k Analogue.
For downloading it's only a bit better, but you can turn on both channels (And pay for the 2 calls), then you can get ~10k/s from a decent server.
The rental may be more, but you do have the 2 lines, so no more arguing over who gets to hog the phoneline.

How about Dodgyfone? I don't use that much though, only in jest, because I think they're one of the better Irish operators.

But Eircon? I dunno, maybe it is childish, but it's defintely a more accurate representation of the company. How about the "equipment rental" they've been charging their customers for 10, 20 and even more years? If that's not a con...

As long as there's a port free in your area, they're a hell of a lot quicker about installing it than you'd think - a week after I ordered the line (and I was told to expect a 3-4 week wait) I got a call, which I thought was going to be some sort of extra confirmation or something that would delay the process even further, but it was actually to make an appointment to get the line installed (which happened about 3 days after I got the call).

Jayziz, lads... t'is a bit childish to call them "Eircon", don't you think? Ye don't call E-sat "E-shat", do you?...

(Hmm... come to think of it.......)

it took over 3 1/2 months, and constant phone calls to really annoy this one poor ******* who was in charge of hi-speed. He finally got it installed. They also managed to charge me for it twice(within a week of the order, quite efficent), tell me it had been installed, 'yes a engineer fitted it, cannt you see the box?' and then forget i wanted it.

You're right Whitey, Moving house to somewhere that cable is/will be available in the next lifetime would be cheaper/smarter than getting ISDN now...Oh, hold on....

one of the main problems with cable is that you are tied into one supplier, if the service isn't particularily good, and i've seen first hand what some 'cable' has been like in the UK, your stuck with it, u can't just dial another isp. mostly tho, cable is good.

i'll upgrade to DSL when it comes (and works), my ISDN is 'pending install' atm
