Baldurs Gate is technically the best but I find I prefer FF7 :)

Baldurs gate is very heavy and you have to be in a mood to play it the ff games are more accesible and less hard than bg is.

I have to say BG 1 as I'm nearly finished it after about a month of solid gaming. It's rare when I actually loose sleep over a game but I constantly found myself saying, I'll stop just after I finish this area or right after I solve this quest. This ultimately sees me playing for another 2-3 hours.

There's nothing more satisfying then watching your little Level 1 Ranger grow into a mighty Level 8 monster kicking machine.

Looking forward to finishing it and importing my party into BG2.

I'm torn beetween Final Fantasy and Baldurs gate.

But I guess Japanime wins over Beardy Goblins . Voted Final Fantasy 6. :)

What about the grand-daddy of the modern isometric (ish) RPGs ??

    Fallout 1/2 ??

Although I love the Baldur's Gate series :d

BattlingCheese have you actually played BG2 and TOB expansion? If not prepare to put BG1 in second place.. also get the Tales of the sword coast expansion for BG1...
Icewind Dale was cool but nothing to BG2.. no one has mentioned thir other one hit wonder though.. Planescape Torment was amazing!! Pity it was a once off... maybe they could make another? Anyway im waiting for Neverwinter Nights.

One other thing.. I have never actually played a Final Fantasy game.. are they anything like BG?? I mean is there interaction or is it just a hack and slash type, action game like the PS2 Baldours Gate?

I voted final fantasy (7-9) but i didnt like 8 that much but 7 and 9 were very good games, cant wait for 10

No I haven't Saruman which is why I didn't vote for it.

I have Tales of the Sword Coast installed and have both BG2
and it's expansion Throne of Baal(Still wrapped) waiting in the wings for I finish BG1(Currently on chapter 6)

On that issue does any1 know what the deal is with installing TOB along with BG2. With Tales of the Sword Coast I installed it with BG1 before I started playing and had the sense to steer clear of the new area Ulgoaths Beard until near the end. In fact I still haven't visited it.

Will the same apply with TOB.

    Cheers

    Wes

Oh come on people!! Deus Ex! Its ploterific. Plotastic even. In 2nd I nominate BG2,probaly would BG1 too but dont have it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

BG2 and TOB can be installed together, same as with BG1.. you dont have to go to the new area until you want to. But if you go to it for a snoop around you dont have to stay, you can leave it and come back.. another stratagy is if you get to a place in BG2 where your stuck and need new weapons or experience levels then you can go to the expansion and get some experience and stuff.. money helps... i dont want to spoil the expansion but NPC's play a big role. Umm.. great game and expansion. Btw the stronger your character in BG1 if you import him the stronger he/she becomes in BG2 and stronger again in TOB! I started a new one in BG2 as i wanted a change... you get bumped up in experience points etc anyway to the average you need to play and get some goodies.. i think if you import you get to keep some of your items from bg1 also.. not sure.. you can from BG2 and TOB if you install it later..

Fallout Tactics does and i think Fallout 1 and 2 do as well.

Fallout 1/2 definitely have a sniper rifle (although its really just a long rangle rifle).

Sorry If this has been mentioned already (blame my lazy drunk-ass state for not reading the previous posts about ff and sniper rifles) but pen and paper RPGs (when done well) are far beeter than any CRPG because they actually rely on your imagination rather that giving you a prop in the form of computer graphics and dodgy pregenerated scripts.

Im not dissing any of the games mentioned. I really enjoyed BG 2 and i think FF 7/8/9 are good games, but not up to the standard of a good DM and a set of dice....

Yeah I'd go with FF7. First rpg that just dragged me right in.

I though that FF8 was the worst of those three.
